Been away from the DSM scene for much too long. One of the few parts that are still stock on my car is the rad and looks out of place in the engine bay and will be removed to ease in installation of a new manifold and O2 housing that I have sitting around. I also had to notch quite a bit of material out of the stock fan shroud to make clearance for the wast gate actuator.

Way back in the day one of the vendors offered and aluminum rad with 2 fans and a optional shroud for a decent price but cant seem to find it.

The rad has to be stock configuration as I have some silicon hoses I purchased along time ago and want to use them.

What's the best bang for your buck product out there right now? I Always enjoy pics of sexy engine bays. Any good ideas for replacing the factory overflow bottle while I'm at it?

Mitsumoto for me. Comes in 2 sizes, one being a HD model which is thicker. Use stock fans if room still permits as they are better than 90% of the aftermarket. If using aftermarket fans, I would go with brand names like Spal, etc. There fans are rated for Nascar so they are good enough for me!
Ebay fans don't move near enough air, steer clear of them.
Glad you are back in the DSM scene!!!!

^ Mishimoto?

For OEM fitment I'm a fan of Koyo. For aftermarket and clearance the 2-row Scirocco/MK3 Golf seems to fit the bill nicely for most. I am going this route as it tucks the rad into the support nicely.

LOL Yeah Mishimoto. I thought he was asking about aluminum radiators for some under hood bling. :)

I've always been big on PWR, due to their usage in racing. I had a thicker than stock one on my 1g and it helped keep temps down on the road course pretty well, combined with a hood vent. It was more expensive than the Mishimoto but I feel it was a better quality product.

I think you'll be fine with most radiators because I've ran a Mishimoto and a Fluidyne and I haven't noticed a difference even though the local DSM gods claimed the Fluidyne cooled 3x better. However, I did notice a big difference when I got rid of my ebay/mishimoto fans and purchased high-flow Spal fans. I also put a manifold blanket on and a lower heat shield on the turbo. Car never goes above 196 and I live in Texas.

I think the difference is only going to be noticeable when it's pushed to the limit. On normal day to day driving, assuming there isn't an underlying cooling problem, any aluminum radiator would probably be fine. But if you're running it hard at a road course you want to be sure you get the most efficient option. I had the benefit of being around a few road racing DSMers, as well as other road racing people, which is what led me to choosing the PWR.

I swapped from a mishimoto x line to a koyo with 2 spal fans. I had no problems with it yet, the reason I swapped it was because all the ones we've used at the shop I work at have leaked in the first year. About 6 of them on 6.4 diesels and a couple cobras. I figured since everything else is new I wasn't going to chance the radiator.
