I wanted to see if the intake manifold was the reason why I didn't gain anymore up top but with the new cams it will be impossible to compare. At least I can post results when the time comes because no one has any comparisons that I could find for the time being.

hmm. making want to check the wrist pins on my hds to see if theyre a tool steel and possibly change them out if not. looks like youre doing one hell of an upgrade on the car.

This last set had tool steel wrist pins as well because they were the extreme duty ones. I think I listed it wrong in my post just sucks that the piston broke like it did. Everytime something happens I just look at the direction I'm going with the car and try not to deviate from the plan I set. One thing is for sure if it doesn't work out this year I'll will probably throw in the towel and sell it all.
i hope you dont do that. youve come a long ways. hell your car has been a lot of motivation for mine LOL

That's good to hear I don't think much of it just because I haven't ran any fast times like its capable yet. I just cant afford to have anymore catastrophic failures.

woah man! love your build! going to follow you on youtube. Hope to see more. Don't sell the car ;) Keep it up!

Yeah shipping has sucked! I ordered a whole set of taillights at the begging of the month and still don't have them..

I can't believe your putting Wiseco's back in. It wasn't the wrist pin that failed, it was wiseco's junk ass piston that failed. For others playing along, since the begining 1400HD's came with a 0.225" wall 9310 wrist pin.

This has been a long 9 months since the last block had a detrimental failure. I bought a used shortblock but that ended up being junk after I tore it down with very little passes on it due to poor quality control. So I took another step back and just went with top of the line work done right by none other than Curt Brown once again. This assembly is a Turbo Tuff and Shearer Spec Wiseco custom pistons which are vastly different than the standard off the shelf wiseco extreme duties. I will post pictures of the actual short block later but damn does it feel good to finally have this knowing I don't have to second guess the machine work performed.

Finally had some time to pull the block from packaging and slap it on the engine stand. I am shooting to have this assembled by Friday. I got my hands on a brand new OEM 6 bolt oil pickup which are discontinued. My friend said come check this out and bam manual rack that I've been talking about for over 2 years. Ya he got my ass when I was vulnerable LOL but it has good bushings and the correct brackets.

I also took a shot of the shortblock next to the ETS 6" intercooler this thing is huge. I'm not gonna lie I definitely overdid it for sure.

i find myself reading back through this whole thread every time i see it updated. cant wait to see what you decide as far as keeping the Holset or going with a 4 series BW

I'm glad you're enjoying the build thread updates. I will be sticking with the hx40 for now. I had a ton of time to think about this build where it started and where I am right now. I'm not sure how the new intake manifold and cams are going to work out. I contemplated just making it a track car but that takes away the fun of it for me. I got caught up in just chasing a record. In all honesty power wise I maxed last year's setup but I did not maximise the potential that setup had as far as short track which would have no doubt got me where I wanted to be.

Last month I was about to sell everything I had DSM wise and just throw the towel in completely. The community has changed, less and less people are out to help each other and just flap there gums from some crap they find on Facebook. This is when I told myself you know I just need to have fun again like 2017 . I had alot of fun because I kept my setup fairly basic and enjoyed the car. I'll probably regret the s3's on the street but I'll just have to find out the hard way.

After the port work I decided it was time to drop the longblock in. Now this is such a relief FINALLY! I call this March madness. Don't mind the earnest of wires I plan on addressing that later.

Been slowly chipping away at it. Just need to install the new wideband, axles, fluids and it will be ready for its first start. I need to cut down my upper intercooler pipe about 1". The intercooler needed some new supports on the bottom since it weighs 58lbs and of course is 2 inches thicker. I tucked it as tight as possible. Once I get it running and tuned to the new intake manifold and cams plans are to address the wiring in the bay and just enjoy the car on the street.

Got it up and running. Took it for the seat rings drive and it felt great. Many were saying the Magnus intake manifold and s3's were gonna kill my low end and driveability well I didn't even notice I had high lift cams in it from a take off or hills ect. I don't know if it's the twin scroll setup paired with the consolidated manifold or what but this thing just wants to RIP I can feel it. Now that the biggest obstacle is out of the way it's time to dial in the tune, get a full exhaust on the car in 3.5" flavor and clean up the wiring. I'm happy I can finally drive and enjoy the car after 10 months. I'm not even thinking about racing right now just enjoying the car.
