How do you become a DSM Wiseman? And what does it mean?

Exactly - it comes down to the nominated member's posting history. Anyone can suggest anyone really, but we have our site leaders look through the posting history of those who get nominated to see what advice that member has given and also make note of their attitude. Part of it is their knowledge, their participation level here, their candor, and willingness to help others. We like to choose people who participate in a way that fits in with the spirit of this site.A person may have gone through 10 different DSMs, yet he may not really know what he's doing or talking about. Likewise, someone may only own one, but his knowledge and understanding of the different mechanics surrounding these cars might be very broad. Couple that with a generally welcoming and positive attitude, as well as helpful replies; in my eyes that's what might make a DSM wiseman. It's also important to acknowledge other people's opinions and not be afraid to stand up for your methods and ideas. Like Ludachris said, they may not always be right. You know a good Wiseman when he/she realizes a mistake might have been made and owns up to it. I've seen it happen a few times around here without too much drama.
Just my 2 cents.

Ahhh yes, good old Defiant. He's a legend on this site. Notice I said "we like to choose people who participate in a way that fits in with the spirit of this site". Our track record isn't perfect. That is BS. Case in point, "Defiant".
Defiant helped a LOT of people when he was active here, he still has more than double the post count of any other member here. He was loved by many and despised by quite a few too. And he'd tell you that I repeatedly asked him to quit being condescending with his responses in the forums. I had to delete many of his posts over the years and he would apologize for his attitude regularly. I think he might have actually quit visiting because of my hounding him - well that and the repetitive questions, but I don't know for sure. He just disappeared one day.
With all of that said, we still have always tried to give the Wisemen title to knowledgeable AND friendly members. We don't have a perfect track record of getting that right, but we've always tried.
Take it easy. It was a joke. Lol
I was gonna ask the same thing!Well crap how do I have the title then?
Agreed! I like "fiscally irresponsible".Maybe there should be another title for those of us who aren't smart enough to part with these damn cars after 10+ years

Man Defiant.... I fought with him so much back in the day. I'm tempted to mayke a typo just to see if it brings him out of the woodworks so he can yell at me...
This title isn't handed out very often, though we should probably start identifying more candidates again since some of the Wisemen aren't that active these days.
