I posted this a few month back but forgot about it entirely. I've got a DSM sitting in front of my house wanting a new home. It's a 1996 Eagle Talon with a whole load of mods and a fair amount of problems. I was on the path to restoring my car to glory, but I'm a full time nursing student, and I can't maintain this thing while using as my DD anymore. It has a lot of upside, and a fair amount of downside. I could probably get quite a bit more from parting it out than by selling it whole, but I'm not sure I have the time. Biggest issue is transmission related, but I think the transmission itself is fine. Im thinking the 3,000 ball park.
Good:
o 1g 7 bolt short block swapped about 8k ago. forged internals (J&P cylinders, eagle rods). Crank was knife edged and balanced.
o Tranny had translab shift kit installed with new separator plate. Swapped end clutches, and installed welded center diff (professionally done by shep). I have a generic after market tranny cooler where the stock IC lived.
Bolt ons: 16g Turbo, FP manifold, Megan racing 02 housing, 750 CC FICs, Walbro 255, VRSF Intercooler,
Fuel lab AFPR, Link v3, LC-2 WB and gauge, New tires, decent wheels
Other random maintenance stuff I cant think of.
The meh
o I kept the head from the original car but has big bore lifters.
o I deleted the oil cooler (many believe it had virtually not meaningful benefits)
o There were a few solutions that I had to come up with that could have been done better as I was fixing random my DSM has another problem this week kind of thing
The bad:
o After the engine swap, the transmission would not come out of limp mode. I tried a few things but my tranny knowledge is limited. I.m thinking a wire short or maybe a TCU problem. I wired the transmission to manually shift via two toggles based on a thread I found here until I could drop in a shift box, but I haven't gotten around to installing (I have the shift box). It shifts fine with my currently installed solution, but it is far from ideal.
o Wiring for accessories, after market stuff is a mess. I planned to clean it up but I hate wiring and I never got to it.
o Exterior is very Meh. No dings or dents really, but clear coat is shot. Hood is the worst. It needs new clips for side skirts, that kind of thing.
I have boxes full of parts from a donor 1995 talon that merged with this one, You can take what you want from that too. Examples: I have the torn down 2g block and an additional 2g head, intake manifold, just lots of random stuff.
