Mods - apologies if this isn't allowed. Please let me know and I'll take it down.
As many of you know, OEM gearsets for the DSM & Evo 123 transmission are disappearing, or in many cases gone. Right now, if you want an OEM Evo123 1st/2nd & input shaft for your car, you have to take chances on buying used, or buy a whole transmission. Years ago, there was a very reputable Japanese manufacturer who actually offered an aftermarket helical, synchronized gearset for the Evo123, but discontinued them because nobody bought any. Not a single kit got delivered to the US - presumably because nobody even knew it existed. I have spent way too much time over the past 10 years finding every aftermarket part available, and just discovered these myself after digging through an old pricelist.
Given the situation with our gears, I just contacted the manufacturer, asking if it possible to bring them back. At the moment, I have a *maybe*, provided that I buy 10 sets. You can imagine that this is not a small investment. At the moment, I do not know the specifics of the gears, other than what I have mentioned above. For strength, they should meet or exceed OEM gears (otherwise they wouldn't have been made in the first place). I would bet that they have shorter ratios, possibly shorter than the Evo.
Now I'm reaching out to the Evo123 & DSM communities - is anyone interested in an aftermarket solution to our gear shortage? I'll estimate each set around $2,000 US at the moment, which may go up or down. I want these for my own car, but if I can't find enough interest, I'll abandon the idea, as I have other options for my transmission. Please post in this thread if you are interested in taking part.
