Well just like the title says the car jumps when it is put into reverse. It jumps really bad. But in the rest of the gears it drives just fine. Only other thing i can think of is that it sometimes grinds into gears everyonce in a while. Can someone please help. What can i check. Or what can it be.

try changing the tranny fluid, check your linikage to see if its not slipping into reverse.....but from what you say about it sometimes grinding into gears change the tranny fluid

I just changed the tranny fluid about a month ago. So i dont think that is it. Would that make it jump. Cause my car jumps alot. Its really bad cause it feels like the car is falling apart.

Explain better what it does and when. For instance, an initial jump when starting to back up? releasing the clutch? Clutch released and already backing up?, repeated jumping? etc..

Ok so when i put it into reverse it goes in no problem. But as soon as i start letting the clutch out it starts jumping like crazy. Itll continue jumping while its still in reverse. It feels like if it was the worst case ever of wheel hop. And it does it as soon as the clutch comes out no matter how much gas i give it.

My first thought was it may be brake related, something binding in reverse only. Is it fwd? or awd?

Do you "feel" anything? Body rising up? binding of any sort in the brakes or tranny region?

well i feel like if the jumping was coming from the tranny i doubt it is related to the brakes because if i just let it go back in neutral it doesnt jump or anything. It feels kind of like bad mounts just worse. Ive checked my mounts there all good.

I might say that your tranny is going bad. Is your tranny a stock tranny or is it built? If its stock, you should have it checked out cause your not getting any power flow to reverse. your reverse or reverse idler must be worn. cause like you said it grinds once in a while right? your syncros might be worn also.

I had the same thing happen to my old 1g FWD TSI. When i would go in reverse it would shake VIOLENTLY!. Turned out that 3 of 4 tranny bolts fell out and the tranny was 1/2in away from the block.
Hope this helps!

thanks,

Today one of my friends quickly looked at my car and said that it could be the clutch. I was wondering if it was possible for a bad clutch to make my car do this. Do you guys think it could be the clutch.

No, If it was the clutch it would do it in other gears too. Go and check the bolts on the tranny, There are 2 on the top that are easy to get to. Just make sure they are not loose or missing.

I had this happen alot on a honda accord i had. sounds to me like hot spots on the clutch. although it would seem like it would do it in both first and reverse. i would check all of your engine mounts , bellhousing bolts, and bushings first. if thats not it then i would suggest going ahead and replacing your clutch disk and possibly your flywheel. This condition is caused by doing burnouts...so if you do those alot, you can bet thats what it is.

The problem isnt the clutch, and it isnt a "tranny bolt".. The transmission is actually going out. One of two things has most likely happened. You've either got worn detent balls or worn springs. Although it is rare for this to happen in 1st or Reverse it does happen. It is common to see these problems after a fluid change too.

well the tranny ended up cracking where the slave cylinder goes and i posted some pictures on another post of what my clutch looked like after... so im gonna have to get a new tranny and clutch... sucks cause im on a tight budget...im gonna have to go with ebay...

Hey Just Wondering wfsr_b20 what was the out come? I have one doing the same thing but I had one clutch in it went in clutch perfect ( Brand new Clutch week Old) it exploded with in a week. Had a shop replace clutch with standard clutch from carquest now reverse has been a nightmare shake when backing up ?
