When I see another DSM in my area I get so excited because they are so rare. But at the same time it makes me sad because they are usually non turbo and beat up and makes me realize how much our platform has died out. But at least I can say I have one of the nicer talons in my area.

The DSM community is second to none. Has been amazing to see this platform launch so many successful businesses over the years. Still get a kick taking mine out for a romp from time to time... with antique tags no less :)

For me being a Chrysler Dodge tech and having first hands on these vehicles i quickly fell in love with them . My first dsm was a 1989 mirage turbo then a 95 gst and now a 98 gsx that always puts a smile on my face when i hit that 30 psi of boost .

I dont think these cars will be like a charger or cuda gsx etc... classic. But it brings some level of pride knowing we have a rare vehicle that many have taken for granted.

I bought my first DSM in '03 (96 ESi) after wanting one when I was a kid in the 90s. 16 years later I'm on my 7th and 8th DSMs, both AWD, one talon, one eclipse. I thought these cars were cool when I was a kid, but knew nothing about them, didn't even know they were the same cars. Now I think differently of these cars and see them for more than "looking cool". I daily my talon since I'm doing a complete restoration on my gsx, and even though the rear main leaks, the trans has a bad synchro, the turbo is one WOT pull away from complete failure, and it has more hail dents than a golf ball has dimples, I love the car. There's just something about them that draws a bit of attention from those of us that truly appreciate what they are. There's days I'll just sit in my garage staring at them for no real reason and build them in my head knowing any of those day dreams are a long way off. I work at a car auction where we get all makes and models of cars, and even those who know a lot about cars in general still ask what my talon is like they've never seen one.

The best part that is a rare car now and the family around it and ehm pop up headlights come on no but i love dsm i think they have something uniqe and i cant stop look at mine and just dream away

One of my most favorite parts has been the people. Over the years, we've made some really incredible connections and gained a lot of friends along the way.
And there's just something about them and the way they just look so dang-o good. :)

Especially with your go-fast parts.. :hellyeah:

As previously mentioned the cost per HP is untouchable with these cars and the familiarity with them is what is keeping me around. A big thing is having a mint condition DSM is becoming a rarity even within the car scene. When I pull up to car events or even at the drag event, I always have people point and yelling "DSM". It is a well known car throughout the car community but are becoming more and more a dying breed. Personally I love driving my car when I don't break it at the drag strip. Even when I break it I just look forward to fixing it with a part I know can take the abuse while I wait for the next weak link to give.

When I compare modding the GSX compared to my Audi A7, it makes it even more apparent how cheap these cars are to build. The tune and a pulley on my A7 runs me $1,700+ and doesn't go down too much trying to buy used stuff. An exhaust on the A7 is $2K+ (My custom V-band exhaust with 18" resonator and electric cutout on the DSM was $800) ... Think about that compared to the exhaust available for these DSMs!

I love knowing I will ALWAYS have something to do as long as I have my DSM(s) ROFL but they sure put a smile on my face when the right foot goes down!

It makes me smile seeing everyone post things I think about my car everyday. The heartache of having my car up on stilts for the better part of 4 months was depressing, especially with my friends begging me to take them for a ride. But now that she is back in good health all I think about is coming back home and just having fun.

My favorite part about owning a DSM for the last year and a half is how much attention they get. I can't have a moment of peace at a gas station anymore, and quite frankly I enjoy the passion that still exists for these things. I have had countless offers to buy my car outright and if you run into another DSMer in the streets or at cars and coffee you are going to be there for awhile...

One day I was blasting through the beautiful backroads of the northern Oregon coast last summer and decided to stop in Tillamook. I had just waxed my car and decided to stop at a local brewery on the way back home. I pull into the space right next to all the outdoor seating, and a little kid, about 6 turns to his mom and asks "Mom! is that a Porsche!?!" I laughed and just said "no, better." under my breath and went inside. Even little kids who never grew up idolizing these cars on Need For Speed Underground can get excited for something that predates them by a good decade, and that makes me happy...

Also this community is great!

..that its not a subaru, mustang, or civic. it is much more unique and imaginative.

now, not specific to dsm, but one of the things I love about mine is that with how hard the 16g hits all I need to do is put my foot down in second and I break em loose by 3k and build 20psi in just under a second. That serves to quieten fartcanners who want to race. sure, a lack of traction with crappy 205 street tires won't win races but the sound of a dsm with a steel 3" turboback and insta-spool blowing rubber at the speed of light seems to work just as good at making jaws drop.

and i dont even have to exceed the speed limit to do it. of course a big torquey v8 could do the same.. but you expect it and wheres the fun in that?

A lot of people are looking for mint DSMs and that's great, but you also get a lot of accomplishment restoring one that was headed to the crusher. My car (as evidenced by my build journal) was a complete piece of shit when I bought it. I've been slowly bringing it back to life and am proud of that.

Over the years I have left dsm half dozen times, then always end up picking up another and starting over.. :idontknow: I tell myself this time if i take a break ill just cover it and let it sit a while. Best and worst thing about them is they are addicting and there isn't anything like it..

It's just too bad that everybody wants to copy your build now though right? :hmm: :D

For me its the fact you never see them around! And also how it slowly turns people into mechanics LOL.
You Always get alot of people pulling up beside you at red lights asking questions, and lots of rubber necks driving down Portage ave.
Lastly here in Winnipeg we have a tradition thats been going on when my parents were kids.
we call them cruise nights on every Sunday!(once the snows gone) Always lots of different cars all coming together at once and you get alot of people asking questions (especially when you have a bunch of dsms lined up) 2019 will be awesome, although sometimes you get a few cars that dont belong but to each there own! Cant wait for this year

The BEST PART is how every time you upgrade or mod something it always leads to another mod or upgrade LOL the endless build with endless possibilities LOL

I never get tired of looking at it. Doesn’t matter what kind of day I’ve had, or how chaotic things are in the world, it always gives me the same feeling when I’m pulling up to the house and see it there.

Best and worst thing in my opinion is all the cool cars that drive by because they probably know I'm turbocharged.
Worst thing is all the ×××hole kids with hondas, and cobalts driving by at high rpms at all hours of the day and night.
