Maybe we could tell something from a log where there was some bucking. In fact, now that you have the 450's in it and it doesn't buck, it would be cool to compare a 450 log with a 1650 log.
It's a very bizarre problem. I've had some of the brightest people in the industry look at the logs and they can't figure it out either. I'll have logs this weekend.

I'm hoping that you find an answer to your injector issue as I was having a similar problem with my 1600s. I'm using five0 black ops 1600s which are bosch. I put in all the data that came with them and the only way I could get them to idle with fuel trims normal was either extremely high mas comp or dialing out global which made it throw out everything on cruise. Sorry I dont mean to thread jack either. Awesome build by the way. Maybe I'll get around to updating mine.

I'll be super happy when I can 100% tell you what the problem was. I'm so tired of fooling with this car. Ready to drive it.

I know the feeling. I've been restoring mine for 2years and finally got it finished only to pop an oil cooler hose and make glitter oil. Luckily it just beat up the rod bearings but now I get to take it out and do it again. Only this time I'm going to put my smaller cams in. The gsc s2 are just too large to spool on converter so in will go some hks 272s

Wow, just looked over this entire build thread, absolutely amazing. I'll be starting one soon as well, and I definitely would like to pick your brain on the somewhat rats nest of a terrible battery relocation job mine currently has. Looking to just revert battery back to original location.

Thanks a lot. I can't believe I've done all this by myself. I've learned a lot and am still learning. I'll be attempting a wire tuck and full rewire here within the year on a separate harness. Let me know if I can help with anything.

Since yours is a 1990 and you are suffering from hacks by previous owners (which I still am to this day) I will be sure to tune in.

If you're serious about being a quitter, you can send those 1650s my way.

If you need to swap over I have some high z 1600s I have on the shelf I got from the detective coating guy (sorry I can't remember his name rn) They're been sitting in a bag in my toolbox since fall. take em. try em. you know the drill.

It actually was.
Im not surprised at all. I even remember him having engagement issues with THAT exact flywheel when he installed his SouthBend clutch. Man I do NOT miss being friends with that dude

It was for sale as "New" then when I got there I noticed it was used. He said he put a couple miles on it then went with a different setup. Of course, I install the thing then have to go through the trouble of taking all that shit back off and paying for a resurface because of that guy. This was a year later and I moved to Houston already so that was the end of that.

Well, I have the car running really well right now. The bucking/sputtering issue just went away randomly and to this day I don't know what it was. I sent the ecu and injectors (hi-z 1650s) out for servicing and both came back fine. So far, I've put 400 miles out of the 700 miles South Bend said I needed to break-in the new clutch. The car is currently switched to gasoline for convenience. I can't wait to turn up the boost on this thing; I know it's going to rip. I wound up installing the Kiggly HLA pressure regulator.

Never a dull moment with these cars.
I've put several hours lately into trying to find a way to buy E98 for reasonable $ - the idea being to avoid "winter blend" E85. I don't think I'm having an actual problem with it, but it annoys me that the 30% of it that is gasoline, nobody knows anything about the gasoline, like, what octane is it? Probably 85? 87?

I would have thought that in Houston where you are, there would not be a "winter blend". But I see on your post #88 it says "Minimum 70% ethanol" just like what I see here.
Have you ever measured the ethanol % of your E85 there? Is your car flex fuel?

I've been happy with my little custom-made under-tray I made for the talon. I had to cut some holes into the tray put in some rubber grommets and secure it to the crossmember with zipties. I don't know if it helps but I imagine it isn't hurting. I have a pretty robust radiator/fan/shroud system now so we will see if I ever have problems in the Texas summer.
