I installed the rear 3sx stainless lines they work perfectly with the stock rear drums, when I install the dsm rear end, the car will receive the better rear disc setup from the 1g dsm, the drums are temporary.

I also made a quick video on a shifter bushings for our cars, I'm almost certain it will work on many other Mitsubishi cars as well.

I'm currently working on a new shifter for the mirage, I plan to run the stock mirage shifter base, and cables ,with a 1st gen 3000gt shifter, and it's swing arm, and shifter I had to cut the mirage shifter base floor out a little [as you can see in the image above] I also had to bend the return spring stop on the shifter base, I also had to take the 3000gt threaded cable end in order to make it work with a mirage cable. I hear guys mod these to work with dsms so might be a good upgrade for my mirage, I'm hoping to get better shifts from this more updates to come.

I decided to clean the car one last time while it was mobile before the swap.

Motors in position... I'm using "92-"95 Hyundai Elantra front and rear and trans motor/trans brackets [the metal parts that bolt onto the block/trans]
The timing mount is off of a 1.6 manual "93 Hyundai Elantra, aside from the timing mount, all the rubber mounts are the stock mirage ones.

Everything lined up like it should until I tried to use the dsm awd half-shaft it puts the rubber cv axle boot into the frame rail, basically the inner axle boot will rub on the frame and tear if you use the dsm half-shaft, so I decided to not use the equal length axle on the drivers side... ...well just for now, so I used my old drivers side, full length mirage cv axle, and it fit with no issues, this is for testing purposes or until I figure something else out.

I got the motor and transmission in the car, I plumbed the intake [notice the 1g dsm throttle body elbow is firing downwards] The battery is the smallest one I could find at autozone, I was contemplating mounting it in the drivers side fender well it will fit, but I want better weight distribution so thats why it's on the passenger side.

I installed the, larger bore, evo brake master cylinder, and I also installed the larger "07 Hyundai Elantra/kia spectra, brake booster by the way. {Cool tip} for people that want to do this swap, save the booster and master swap for when you do the wiring in the dash, because the engine harness firewall hole is behind the brake booster so when you remove it you have plenty of room to route the dsm main harness into the firewall.

I'm using a slim radiator fan I got from a wrecking yard, so I'm not sure of the brand, but it says made in USA on the outside of it. also take note that the J pipe on the compressor housing kinda hits the fan so I might get one thats clocked towards the back of the car more.

Remember these kids LOL, it's been a while since I've seen an oem plastic bov cover, it should impress the smog ref and most dsm aficionados.

I got the stock dsm side mount tucked in there I might paint it black to be more stealthy it barely clears the tire.

so because I had everything for the swap organized it only took a few days to get it all in with the help of my brother he's a life savor LOL, I wish the cv axles would have worked I have heard mirage turbo axles work but that will be researched in the future.
I still need to, drop the gas tank and install the 190lph fuel pump, the car does run right now with the stock fuel pump, but I don't want to run lean so I plan to run a 190 lph unit, I also have to figure out the A/C wiring for the compressor clutch, and the dual pressure switch, I'm likely forgetting a few other little things that I have to address, but will update with any info on that as time allows.

I got extremely lucky and found an "89 eagle summit with only 71,000!!!OMG miles at a parts yard today.

The dash cover was in mint shape on the car, so I pulled it and applied some spray cleaner on it and UV protected it , my old one is all cracked up and ugly this is a common issue on the older 3g CSM cars, i have to transplant my vin tag over to the new dash cover.

I also ordered a brand new oem cluster bezel direct from Mitsubishi vintage parts, I got extremely lucky on this too, supply on these is vary limited.

More updates coming up: I still have to add a window washer bottle, the stock one gets in the way of the air filter canister housing my solution is to try and use a late 80s to mid 90s mitsu mighty max/d50 washer bottle.

After dialing in the suspension to zero camber with the yoshifab camber plates, I installed a Whiteline front upper strut tower brace ...

...To complement the front brace, I went on ebay and ordered an adjustable rear brace, it was initially designed to fit in a a 2G eclipse, but it bolted in like it was made for this car... ...However one thing thats worth noting: My mirage SE was equipped with the rear speakers, and they contact the rear brace a small amount, so I had to mark how much clearance I needed and then I lightly trim the plastic corner of these with a dremel, it was vary easy.

I spotted this rare "89 Colt GT turbo rear wing on a forum, these wings are quite rare only 1500 of these "89 Colt GT cars were imported into the states, [and the wings are just about as rare if not rarer] so I snatched it up, It was originally a red wing [on a red car] but one of the last owners of this wing, had sprayed it black, I wet sanded it down and then applied a green primer I plan to sand it down with 400 grit and then give it a few coats of black paint, there were some uneven areas so I might have to sand it a bit more.

More updates when I get the chance, till then have a good one tuners.

well been a bit since I updated this project, so heres a small update of whats going on with the mirage.

I opted to make my own battery brace just for peace of mind.

I spotted this used kiggly hla with spacer for sale online, so I snatched it up, along with this I installed a set of, good used, and cleaned/bled evo lifters that I had on hand, all of this was in an attempt to rid my motor of lifter tick, I plan to clean up the 1g lifters and maybe do Kevins mod to them to keep em going.

also while I had the valve cover pulled I noticed that the valve springs had some green paint on the upper half of the springs, these might be HKS springs, I'm not 100% sure but I don't recall seeing paint on the stock 1g dsm valve springs, I could be wrong, also not sure if it has stock cams ether... If anyone on here knows what these are please let me know thanks.

I found a good deal on a used copy of dsmlink/ecu combo for sale and I jumped on it, i was not sure if my wiring was spot on for the diagnostic port on my mirage, but now I can confirm that I wired it all in right, since dsmlink works with this cars stock port, I have some mild mods I plan to add in the near future, stay tuned for more updates.

I know it's been a while with no update but, I have Some more info I forgot to share: I used a 1989 mirage/colt GT 1.6 turbo axle for the passenger side, the stock 1.5 mirage axle on the passenger side would not work right for some reason, anyway I have more mods planned for the car this year.

I decided to do something nice for the mirage this month so got some MT-90 Gl4 for the Mirage miles ahead better shifts so far.

I got extremely lucky and spotted this rare gem at a parts graveyard.

For those that don't know, this is a narrow block 4G64 6 bolt motor with only 56K! miles on it with an auto trans...my plans are possibly do a 2.1 de-stroker race motor, basically I have some crazy plans, but we will see I might save this for my other car, I have options and love the current setup in my mirage, but for sure I'm planing a build this motor.

Got a good used FP manifold from a near/local dsmtuner, and some Wiseco HD forged internals for my 2.4 block these are 10.1 compression so I have to run E85 and likely less boost if I want to street the car just to stay on the safe side, I still need to source some 156mm rods I suppose I'll have to start budgeting my founds for some quality rods to pair with these.

More updates to come: currently I have ordered a nice JDM front bumper from our friends overseas should be here this month or so.
 
I know it's been a while since I updated this build, not much has happened since the last update, I plan to make a list of stuff I want to do to get this going again...But I won't leave you with nothing LOL so heres some stuff I'm currently planing to address on the car.

I got my hands on some low mile 20k to be exact, Evo X MR Bilstein struts, with eibach springs, I plan to use these on the Mirage, I know the rear struts will raise the rear ride height a few inches, but that might be a blessing in disguise, because when I swap in the awd via a 1g 4 bolt rear sub-frame, I'd have to lengthen the rear struts or mod the towers to allow me to use the 1g dsm suspension, so I suppose at the least this will give me more options, I was considering getting evo x coil overs for full adjustment, but I think I'll see how I like these first.

Small update: I decided to swap my front seats for some 2000-2005 Toyota Celica gt seats, this idea was originally discovered by Irving Moulin I take no credit for discovering it, so special thanks to him for sharing this setup with other 3g csm owners.

They are a good alternative to the overplayed evo racaro's, and I'll admit I'd be all for them if they cost less, but this build has been an attempt to sort of be a little practical on the wallet, well when it comes to non performance parts, well anyway to give out some details they basically require at the least an angle grinder, and I used some flat 1/8th inch thick steel stock that I drilled and cut, I also welded them in place to the seat sliders and bolted them as well for more support just in case, I also used 1 inch thick box steel on the inner rear slider and I welded that on to the sliders, I know I could have drilled and bolted it on, but again I have a welder, so why not weld it... of the 4 mounting points the 1 inner front rail mounting point is the one I chose to leave as is to some extent I used a die grinder to slot it a little inwards or towards the center console.

In conclusion: they look nice, feel comfortable, are affordable, and they weigh less then the stock seats, I did not weigh the stock seats I may do it just for kicks, but just from carrying the old ones out I could tell it was harder then loading in the new ones in and carrying them out a few times back and forth to get the proper fitments, so I'm shedding a little weight in the process as well...

well I decided to finally find out why I can't use the 1g awd manual transmission intermediate shaft on the drivers side, and run the equal length axles, and after 2 weeks of down time I think I have found the cause and a solution... so I will briefly describe the issue I had I could not use the equal length axles because the inner cv axle boot would contact the frame of the mirage and the boots would end up torn if I ran it as is...so after many hours of research I discovered some stuff that people don't mention when they swap these cars. so here is my current theory.

This is a 1990 turbo 1g dsm timing mount bracket it's around 6 1/2 inches from the intake cam.

Now this is a timing bracket that I happened to have in my garage that looked odd to me... I think it was off of a 1.6 hyundai motor but I could be wrong, anyway you will notice how it is 7 inches from the top of the intake cam...so this will pull the motor up more on the drivers side possibly allowing me to use the 1g manual awd equal length axle and intermediate shaft...

will update if this solves the problem if not I'll likely end up cutting the frame and re-welding it with more clearance for the equal length axle boot.
 
I decided to finally focus on the Air conditioning and try to figure out how to get the A/C system to work with the 4g63t motor swap, I have all the mechanical side figured out I attempted to outlined what all that I did back in page 4 for anyone who just started reading this far thats interested you can check that out, but wiring it in seemed like a chore I heard of people just ditching the A/C completely due to complexity, or using a dsm wire harness and keep the dsm a/c wire connectors and rig it up that way, but I have great info for anyone that plans to do this swap and include the A/C it is vary simple I was pouring over wire diagrams when I noticed something quite useful, I own the FSM for both the "92 mirage and the "92 Eclipse, some pictures will fallow to help explaining my research.

The wire connector, pictured above, is located on the drivers side engine bay firewall it is present even in the "89-"92 Colt/Summit/Mirage cars that do not even have A/C, I carefully removed the electrical tape/protective wire loom plastic from my stock 1.5 mirage engine harness that related to this 6 pin connector, that only utilizes 5 of these pins with wires though, I back probed all 5 of the wires in the gray connector, I also carefully de-pinned them from under the under dash connectors and wrote down where they go, and I will document that info here.

This is the same connector after I carefully extracted it from the 1.5 harness, you will notice I re-loomed it and carefully de-pinned it, so basically all I have to do is locate the 5 wire connector pins under the dash that these correspond to, and then reinstall them, by doing it this way I can delete some of the A/C wires that are in the turbo dsm engine harness, at least in the engine bay side, and let the engine harness primarily run the engine, which will ultimately make the harness less cluttered for the eventual full engine wire tuck that I plan to do at a future date, but for now I plan to also tuck the messy looking A/C relays and fuse box thats under the hood, i plan to mount it in the driver side wheel-well, pretty much out of sight out of mind, hence why the wiring is being repined on some connectors that it should already be hooked up to, like c19 and c20 which you normally could just run into the dash via the engine loom, I am running the wires so that I can place the wire under the dash instead of looming into the engine harness [like the original mirage setup], I also may have to extend some wires and do some re-looming for the A/C fuse box wires compressor etc.

Now onto the useful Info: there are 5 wires under dash that will need to be located to get the A/C working using the stock CSM A/C system, and they are as follows:

1: Black/ with white stripe--------------------This wire goes to pin 65 on the 1g dsm ECU connector
2: Green/with yellow stripe-----------------This wire goes to pin 7 on the 1g dsm ECU connector
3: Green-----------------------This wire goes to the stock mirage dash plug known as C-19 pin 7 of the 15 pin connector
4: Black/ with yellow stripe-------------------This wire goes to C-19 pin 6 of the 15 pin connector
5: Yellow/ with green stripe-----------------This goes to the black with gray ring 4 pin mirage dash harness connector C-20 pin 2
6: 1 pin slot is empty...so ignore it. no wires are present on ether side.

Notes: Because the Mirage uses the same 3 yellow ECU pin connectors as a dsm ECU I will simply unpin the dsm ECU pin 7 and put the mirage green yellow wire in place, then find pin 65 and put the black with white stripe wire in that slot, additionally I plan to pull the wires all the way out of the dsm loom that initially went to pins 7 and 65 in the dsm loom ,I may wait on this just to see if my plan works or not, I'm pretty sure my research is spot on but I'll update the post if this ends up not working for some reason...

And here is the final wire: it goes into the pin 2 of connector C-20 which is also located under the dash of the mirage...well I'll wire this all up and take a chance hopefully it will all work out but if not I have another possible plan.
 
Update the A/C works 100% with the above mentioned setup it even idles up like it should, I'll be happy to get the mirage going again sometime this year, the clutch decided it was done so I got to swap stuff again, but on the positive side I got my hands on a "92 CA emissions 1g dsm engine and transmission so now I can attempt to legally smog ref it here when I get it all dialed in.

so some more to add to the mirage build project.

The minute I spotted this I was happy and upon closer inspection the engine had a matching vin to the frame and it was a 6 bolt "92 with CA emissions I spent no time waiting and pulled the motor and all emissions components and I returned for the transmission.

This was quite a find I was extremely lucky most 92 dsms I spotted up to this point were non turbo 2.0 or 7 bolts or not stock engines but now I got what I need to make it really legal.

Left: is the trans that I pulled from the "92 eclipse gst, however all "91-"94 turbo fwd transmissions used the same webbed outer case, that has that webbed portion by the reverse sensor, these are a fair bit stronger then the "90 gst transmission, seen on the right all non turbo fwd dsms used the "90 case from "90-"94 from what I have seen.
Side note: from what I heard the late "92 or "93-"94 they changed the diff and made it stronger and used larger axle cups hence why I took the axle cups with it just in case.
 
And some further developments:
on the topic of axle boot issues that I was having, I took some time while I was waiting for the engine to come back from the machine shop, so in the back ground I decided to do some testing with axles and the dsm intermediate shaft my timing mount swing arm theory had no change to the axle to frame clearance well not in a way that helped enough in fact it raised the cams up closer to the hood LOL so a hood bulge would be necessary, so I went back to the drawing board and here is what I came up with in the end.

Side note: this is with an old blown empty mock up motor, so no crank rods pistons cams timing etc so imagine a few 100 pounds ontop of this axle pushing it down more.

Now take a look what clearance we have with the dsm green cup drivers side axle, it looks to be the cure, I will update further, I may have to pound the frame in more for further clearance, but ideally this alone should fix the issue, we will see when I get the "92 engine in the mirage and I plan to use a stock "92 gst timing bracket.

Sort of side note: This is the thermostat housing numbered 835, that works with the swap it angles the upper radiator hose the right way to face the radiator, on the mirage colt summit triplets, because my mirage uses a radiator that has the cap on the upper end tank, like a gvr4, the stock 1g dsm cap is on the thermostat housing, this thermostat housing was pulled from a sohc "89-"93 Mitsubishi Galant also the "91-"92 2.4 mitsu expo, plymouth colt vista, eagle summit mini vans, also use this thermostat housing cover just in case others want to go junkyard hunting for their build you can also use a "92-"95 Hyundai Elantra one but it has a shorter neck there may be even more models to pull these from but just leaving a few ideas here that I have tried.
 
So maybe I missed it earlier in the thread but did you make an attempt at the BAR referee yet?

What emissions stuff were you missing from the 1G to make it smog legal in your Mirage?

I only ask because Iv'e been through the BAR engine swap process on 2 cars and they did not check casting or VIN numbers on the engine to verify what year the block was. I just told them what it was and they started checking the emissions equipment for that engine. Just making sure you werent swapping the engine solely to get the correct year block in there.
 
Well not only because it is a '92, but I can also make certain it is clean inside and out, plus I had the axle issue to address, and the 90 engine had to come out for that process anyway, plus if I ever get any cars in the future that are a '92 or back, I will have a legit ref motor ready to go.
I would not doubt that some people passed the ref inspection on the right day, with an older engine or some components that are not correct and pray they don't make a stink about what year etc or if the parts are CA specific, but now I have documentation that proves it is all off of a CA car, the engine I had in it before was off of a 90 federal car, I could have simply transferred CA emissions specific parts in place, but this way I have documentation and I know the engine is healthy and rebuilt right.
