This is another topic I really need to learn more about. So much that can be done with 3D printing and it’s growing all the time. I’ve actually thought a lot about starting a community around it dedicated to printed objects made for automotive applications.
Thing is its not 200 to start now, i looked into this and 3D scanning and its expensive for something half decent for either! I looked into a few products this year, more so into scanners but what you want to do means you have to spend more for the better finish/features, then there is the software which alone can be just as expensive

I live in the country and love target practice shooting. Have shot guns since I was 5, thats 50 years ago. Still enjoy it!

That was my son and my buddy. Here was MY try....sorry no video...
I did my round in under 6 seconds. According to my buddy, "That was good".
Was my first try at this "game" and you have to follow the sequence of targets PLUS hit in the color (or on the target AT ALL, LOL)
I was shooting a Marlin 60.
The bigger gun with the laser is a maxed out "Harbor Freight" gun ( Highpoint .40 carbine) according to my buddy but he admits its still a great self defense piece.
Fast cars and guns. Lots of fun here!!! :thumb:

Oh how I miss me some ice fishing. Dont live In Minnesota anymore, but people still call me crazy cuz us northern people would drive our cars on the lakes LOL

Fun story: went up to Lake Kookanusa by Libby, MT as a kid (lived about 50mi south) to do some ice fishing with my dad and some friends. Kookanusa is actually a reservoir with a ~300 foot dam. Got there early in the am, drove out to a good spot (lots of other vehicles already on the lake) and punched a hole. Ice was about 2 feet thick as it was a particularly frigid year, yet no water bobbed up and my dad about lost the auger. He shined a light down, nothing. He grabbed a chunk of snow and dropped it. Took a good 3-4 seconds to hit OMG we slowly packed up and drove off, only to meet the park ranger, sheriff and a couple dam officials just as we were getting off, and they were megaphoning ppl to get off the ice immediately. Turns out the dam had the closure mechanism for the gates malfunction and they were all cracked slightly for about 14 hours from the day before. Drained the reservoir and water was 60-70 feet below the ice level. Luckily no one fell through and they got everyone off, but the visual of my dad dropping the ice chunk and waiting so long for the splash haunts me to this day.

@ViciousLord you and I would get along well i think haha. I never think about cooking as a "hobby" but I grew up in a family where everyone could cook, my oldest sister now a published and highly praised gluten free (brother in law and kids are celiac) chef in the northwest.

I'm also a bit of a home theater junky, and currently run the Klipsch 7.2: 28" fronts, 26" rears, large 6.5 bookshelf kidneys, dual 5.25" center channel, 10" rear sub, 12" front sub, a marantz 5000 series receiver and marantz amp (can't recall the size, I wanna say 150 rms?). It works well for me and my buddy, we have some nights that get rather concert like haha.

Scale model building, finally getting time to finish all the DSM 2g builds and 1g builds I had on hold.
Also have a huge collection of DSM diecast or collection items. I love these cars a little toooooo much :p

WHAT A STORY Tametalon. I mean DAM LOL.
No pun intended.
For the record "kids", this old fart designed his first "sub frequency" crossover in 1985. I run Kenwood, Infinity and JL Audio equipment. 15" rear sub, 12" front, 4 full size old school 3 ways with upgraded speakers and a dual 4" front room surround. We love Nascar and Football games in here and since its the COUNTRY, TURN IT UP!!! :hellyeah:

I did the PC thing from 85-90. I WAS tech support, IT, repairman...all of it. I too enjoyed it. "Windowed" a IBM 8088 to do 4 tasks at once, wish I'd met Bill Gates. Hell that thing wouldn't even go on a thing called "internet". Dam....
Have had my dabble in RC planes also and still have my Cessna 182 3 channel plane. Been decades.
All of you guys bring back fond memories. :)

Curious what other stuff you guys/gals put your time into these days. I'm starting to spend time geeking out in the "Internet of Things" for smart home gadgets. Just installed a smart door lock and am looking at all kinds of other devices to play around with. I know this stuff isn't new but I'm only just now starting to have fun with them.

What's taking up your time these days outside of DSMs?

Being a Security Engineer, the adoption of smart home shit nowadays worries me. Too many people have no idea the implications brought with it.

Most recently I have upgraded home theatre to add a mach5 uxl18 (replaced a polk 10") and a pair of dayton pa460s 18" in custom vented enclosures to compliment polk rti a9 fronts, rti a3 surrounds, and csi a6 center with a yamaha a2070 receiver. Working with 3/4" MDF is nasty.. but the rewards can be heard from the street during Ready Player One etc.
The front 18s made the 55" look like a postage stamp on the wall, so its now a sony 75 900f hanging off a kanto pmx700.

Hope to add another uxl18 if i come across one.. not exactly something you can buy anymore.

Havent done much programming recently which I used to do a lot more in my youth.. except I have been working a bit on my own incarnation of Calans spreadsheet thats no longer available. otherwise i would just use that LOL. LibreOffice (ugh but free) and ptthon macro. Dont intend a public release but i think I got pretty close, just need to fine tune exhaust gas transport delay algorithm.

Beyond that, work, marriage, and home upkeep especially during winter. Hobbies? What are those..

Dang, now THAT is a sound system, I bet Tron: Legacy and the like sounds AMAZING on that setup.

I too am not fond of the new smart home stuff overall, but have no basis other than my own opinion. It just presents alot of crutching on tech that I think we're all too dependant on anyway.

I cant drive them too hard as its a split uxl18 on one channel and the two pa460s on the other of a inuke 3000dsp equalized with REW and a UMIK1.
..but its enough to crack drywall joints i reckon.

I wouldnt mind more sensitive drivers instead of RTi line but these are plenty enough.

I guess aviation in general. Best job I ever had. Hehe. The kids love it when I let them help install parts or move the control surfaces.

Working..LOL Delivering northwest Minnesotan's their O'riellys, Auto Value and Car Quest auto parts. Believe it or not I really enjoy it. Previously worked here for a year before moving into building co2 lasers. I missed driving too much (along with some other BS in the workplace), so back I came!

Second gen Dodges. Mostly breaking them and tearing them apart. Very slow on the putting back together process.

Otherwise guns and politics but I don't REALLY get as deep into them as I'd like.

Guess I can chime in :D. Well I guess finding and buying cars at amazing prices I really dont need counts (still haven't told the lady of the house I now own a evo 9 MR.....:shhh: let's keep this our little secret). I used to be into video games and r/c cars a lot but have since moved on to guns and dipping my feet into motorcycles. I want to get back into the gaming and r/c thing (would like to try out a drone and r/c boat) but with work and still trying to spend time with the lady I kinda put it off. Other than that I go to the track and enjoy watching some good racing or hang with friends that have crazy sound systems in their vehicles that's built for sound competitions.

Other hobbies? Everything expensive unfortunately... haha but anything with a motor or wheels, and some things without!

I spend a lot of time in the garage, to include my long travel Tacoma, Tundra and Sportster. I also spend lots of time in the desert, mostly Glamis with the Taco and now RZR and toyhauler. The rest of my time is usually split up between home improvement, and mountain biking.

Your definitely not lying about all these damn hobbies being expensive .

You mean besides work, and working on the 2G or personal projects? Does eating sushi count? LOL, well I guess that would be renting a jetski here and there. I have been wanting to get into kite boarding, and took my first class, but have a couple more to take before I invest in the equipment to do so.

I have a couple different hobbies.

In addition to working on the Eclipse, I have my daily driver than I mod-time and weather permitting. Neither or which I’ve had the pleasure of in about a year. Really need a garage since there are times that the driveway just isn’t cutting it.

I play World of Warcraft daily. I’ve been in it for about ten years or so. Though not as hardcore as I once was. Still a good time sink when it’s a lazy day. That lead me to building my own pc which sadly is at my dad’s house. Not enough room for it at home so I’m using my laptop (still gets the job done).

Most currently, I’m building large scale automobiles. 1/8 scale to be exact. I’m currently building a 2003 Subaru WRC and Back to the Future’s Delorean (and learning Arduino along the way). I have a finished Ferrari F40, Fiat 500 Abarath, Suzuki Hayabusa (1/4 motorcycle scale), and Nissan GTR as well as a Testarossa that needs some major tlc. You want to talk expensive, these are it! I bought some CNC machined wheels that cost about half as much as the wheels on the Eclipse.

Other than that, I dabble with my now vintage HPI (and Tamiya Clodbuster) radio controlled car collection. I have a helicopter that I’ve been working on and off for a while. Need to find some more appealing landing gear for it.

So, obviously, cars have always had a place in my heart. Lol.

Well.... It used to be cars LOL. I work at a junkyard so I get a lot of cars that come in for like $200 that "needs a wheel bearing" :ohdamn: so I'd make quite a bit of cash flipping stuff that came into the yard. best score yet was a 2003 wrx with 86k on it. nothing wrong with it.. just needed brakes. bought for $700 then $400 in brakes+tires.. sold for 3650. Also was given a 1990 suburban 2500 for raking a ladies lawn.. sold that for 2500 a few years ago.

Most of that is behind me now, since my daughter was born and buying a house my focus has shifted quite a bit. the old lady took off 2 months after I closed on the new house so my financial situation shifted quite a bit when I got hit with all the bills.

Still messing with a 91 laser RS, my GSX and a few other things here and there but mostly it's just home projects (doing insulation in the garage right now) I work 6 days a week so free time isn't too available and I only get my daughter on the weekends so my only day off I spend with her instead of the cars. So my free time goes to my cane corso puppy and my daughter :D and some xbox on the weeknights.

I completely agree, which is what made me think a good community for the niche would be a good idea. The ones out there now don't seem to be too great, and FB groups suck ass. People need help and don't really understand what they're getting into.
