Really not sure where I should post this question, but thought this was as good as any. So I'm really wanting to make this guy a fair offer on this 1g talon, but I'm really not sure? I don't wanna insult him, but also don't want to get ripped off. But this is the car I've been looking for, the AWD version of my current talon. What would you guys offer, low to high? Any input would be great... thanks.

Since I'm somewhat local I'll chime in.

Personally, unless he has reciepts and it runs decent (and is cool with you poking around before buying to verify at least some of the supposed work), I wouldn't offer more than 1750. If he can provide proof for everything, then maybe 2250.

They also took the sale ad down and put up a new trade ad. Probably because ppl were offering him what I said and he wants 4500-5k for it. It's kinda rough, alot of the parts look pretty well-used, save the interior which looks decent. But it also has no tuning solution for the 68hta mentioned, and very low run-time with key-phrases like "idles rough" and "could be bad gas or dirty injectors", which usually means they don't know what the problem is or care to fix the issue and would rather push it off on someone else.

Yeah I've been thinking about those exact points, something doesn't smell right. He says it's a freshly rebuilt 6 bolt with only minutes of idle time. I don't know about you, but if was me, and I had a fresh rebuild. I'd be all over breaking it in, working through the hiccups, and definitely not selling before calling it a win. I'd guess he didn't build the engine himself.

I have to admit, after rebuilding mine I had a bit of a low point and wanted to get rid of it all, but once I started driving it all that went away in a matter of days.
Not being able to tune or diagnose issues he mentioned may be his reason for wanting to get rid of it.
Still, it's not worth more that 1750 IMHO. Make him an offer and maybe you can get a decent deal for an ok awd platform. Could be as simple as a boost leak or improperly adjusted idle settings.

Most likely, they know what's wrong with it and don't want to fix it. Nice looking car but never trust the ole "just needs xyz but I don't feel like doing it". They're lying. The rebuilt engine tells you all you need to know. Who rebuilds an engine then sells it less with less than hour of idling?

Thanks for the input, I think I'll tell him he can throw me a price. That way I know if it's even worth my time pursuing. Not to mention he's a 150 miles away from me, that would be a huge headache. One that I'm willing to do for the right car, but probably not this one.
