So I'm doing my senior project on my eclipse and redoing pretty well everything. My speedo and gas gauge don't work. So I have an idea in mind but don't know what gauges to buy. I'm building a aluminum piece to put in over my original cluster and want to put in a water temp, oil temp, volts, fuel level, rpm and speedo. The only one I don't know what to get is for the speedo, do I need a mechanical or electric? Or doesn't it really matter? Also will any fuel level gauge work? Thanks in advanced.

Your Speed sensor is electric. 1g DSMs are cable driven and 2g DSMs have an electric sensor. For my cluster I used an Autometer Cobalt Electric Speedo. Since I have a 1g, I had to use a 2g speed sensor to get it to work. 3 wires to hook up, quick 2 mile calibration and my speedo works
+/-1mph with gps.

What about for a gas gauge? I got everything else now but a gas gauge.

This looks great, do you have an Idea if it would work in awd platforms aswell?

I mean, if I take a 2g awd speed sensor with the gear, will it fit in a 1g awd transmission?

Thanks.

Physically yes it will fit, you may want to make sure you have the correct speedo gear on the sensor, I can't recall if 1g/2g are different.

Thank you Sir.

One more question, is it mandatory to b
be AWD or does it work with FWD trannys sensor?

Been searching for this info but couldn't find it.

Thanks.

For my gas gauge I used this Auto Meter

It has a preset for Mitsubishi Eclipses. I also bought a new sender/float and tested it on a bench to see if it was accurate which is was.
Hello. I have a question. What sending unit did you purchase to go with that guage. I installed an Aim MXS Strada screen. I no longer have a fuel guage. I have a frontline fabrication tank and have been using the drivers side sending unit. However, now it does not work at all. The cluster setup on these cars is a nightmare.

The cluster setup is pretty bad. I used the factory Mitsubishi sender. The autometer gauge has a whole setup process you do with a momentary switch to get the gauge to read the correct voltage for proper fuel level.
