What are the differences between the auto and manual? The lengths appear to be equal. Is it the bracket.Is their numbers on the brackets to distinguish between the two?

If my memory serves me correct, Jeff Bush said the auto shaft is 1/2" longer than manual, the brackets should be the same 90-96, 97-99 are different due to their a/c bracket.

The Intermediate shaft itself is the same between manual and auto. The brackets are different. And yes, it has different numbers/alphabets on it. (sorry I don't remember the numbers) but I think you can distinguish with physically comparing the both.

IIRC, the manual one and the auto one have different offset.
I took a pic from the link below and modified. The red line is auto and the green line is manual. (I don't remember very well but it was like that when I compared)

So I believe the link's OP has an auto bracket on his manual car. If so, it makes sense why oil leaks from the seal.

Jerzm3 is correct, manual shaft is 16 1/2 inches, and the auto shaft is 17 inches. And the 90-96 bracket is different than the 97-99.

The inner shaft which between the bracket and the transmission (the OP's pic) is the same between manual and auto. The both has the same part number. The bracket and the outer shaft are different.
I think the OP is talking about 1G's inner shaft.

All 1G Intermediate shafts themselves are 16.5" whether they are manual or auto.
2G Manual Intermediate Shafts are 16.5"
2G Auto Intermediate Shafts are 17"
I believe:
90-96 Intermediate Shaft Bracket are the same manual/auto
97-99 Intermediate Shaft Bracket are the same manual/auto

So confused. Pick the auto out of these two

@Jerzm3 @awd4g63turbo As commonly known, the total length of axle is different between auto and manual. I believe @amsrn13 knew about it. He is talking about the differences between the 1G's intermediate shaft length and the 1G's bracket as he mentioned with the title and a pic, that's what I understood. So I didn't mention about 2G's.

The part number of the shaft without the bracket/bearing is MB526845 (The same as MB620806) . It is for all 1G (and some 2G) manual/auto, also for GVR4 manual/auto. This is taken from a catalog I use in my shop in Japan. The catalog is provided from a distributor in Japan which is direct with Mitsubishi. I don't think there is a difference with the shaft length between USDM and JDM but perhaps there is some unknown fact that I don't know.

I’m running a 5spd half shaft on my car. Mount is the only difference as the auto sits a little farther away from the block than the 5spd mount

Yes, that is the offset I mentioned. the auto bracket sits some more millimeters father from the block than the manual one (towards to rear).
