Hi so today the weather was pretty warm around 40-50 degres and my car started up fine it controlled itself around 2k rpm till it warmed up. Then i replaced my coolant temp sensor it started after but wanted to die and I had to give it gas to keep it alive until it warmed up. I tried starting it two hours later and it kinda started but stalled then my rad fan came on for a second. Right now my gas is really low can this be why? I am running a stock ecu non recirculated ebay bov set slightly to hard setting. I have an exhaust leak as well. Any ideas?

2g turbo 96 eclipse gst. And I do not think the sensor is broken how could it be if my car started after i installed it but it just didnt control its idle. Yeah like ill try to crank it and itll kinda fire over then stall then my rad fan will kick on for a second.

I mean i know the coolant temp sensor i installed works when i started the car with the new cts the heavy exhaust smell went away and it seemed like it was burning cleaner.

Which sensor did you replace? it needs to be the two wire sensor, and if the ecu isnt getting a signal from it then the ecu will command the fan to run as a default.

Yeah thats the one i replaced the two wire sensor with the harness connector. I also replaced the gauge sensor but thats working fine. I used a 3/4 wrench to install the new coolant temp sensor. It was from advanced auto parts maybe parts store temp sensors are no good?

Ahh okay guys I found the problem when i was lookin at it today the ground wire for the coolant temp sensor itself was severed now idk if I accidentally did this I doubt it or if it came like this but I know that why it doesnt work I attached a picture for you to see. So what I did was I ordered the new pigtail connector with wiring attached and sticking out off ebay for 3.97$ when that comes ill splice it in and then test it again!

for future reference, an easy way to have checked that without taking anything apart would to have been to use a scantool or ecmlink to check what the PCM is seeing from the CTS. You had an open in the circuit so you'd have been able to see there was incorrect data on the data stream. then obviously you'd have checked the sensor itself for an open using a multi-meter, but probably wouldn't have made it that far because you'd have noticed the wire first.
the old adage garbage in means garbage out applies to the PCM, they all need power & ground, and proper inputs and outputs for everything to function properly.
