My clutch went out on my 97 spyder gs. The transmission has been switched out. I believe it’s the transmission for the 2.0 turbo.
(kf5m332spzt)

So, what clutch and flywheel do I get? One for a 97 spyder 2.4L? Or one for a 2.0 turbo? Also, everywhere I look, I can’t find a clutch and flywheel kit for the 2.4l. Only for the 2.0 nt and 2.0 turbo. Anyone know where I can get the kit?

I’m assuming the one for the 2.4L, but I just want to be sure.

Thanks.

I found a stage 1 2.0 Turbo FWD clutch kit with 7 bolt flywheel. That going to work?

And now that I think of it and do research on here, I have another question...

I got a set of cv joints for my spyder. Are they going to work if the transmission is for the 2.0 turbo?

Hard to give a definitive 'yes that will work' without knowing what it is. 'Stage 1' tells us nothing.

As for the c/v's.. the F5M31 (Spyder GS) and F5M33 (GST) axles are not interchangeable.

I’ve been researching clutch kits. Is a XTD stage 4 going to be overkill? looking at the xtd 1700 series 6 puck kit with 11lb flywheel.

Or should I just stick with a exedy pro-kit with fx chromoly flywheel.

It’s just my daily driver but plan on upgrading over time.

It's definitely overkill for a stock 4G64.. but it'll fit just fine. Only thing that you might want to take into consideration is that it's an unsprung 6 puck disc.. unsprung discs aren't as comfortable in a daily as a sprung disc (takes away some of the 'jerk' when the plate makes contact, makes it a bit more comfortable for a daily).

So. As long as I get a 7 bolt fwd flywheel. It’ll be ok? I found an exedy clutch kit for the gst with a 7bolt fwd flywheel.

From what I’ve read, the clutch and pressure plate are not the issue when it comes to compatibility, it’s the flywheel. But, I believe I read something about the turbo flywheels being raised and the non turbo flywheels not raised... I just don’t want to get the wrong one.

The 420a flywheels are not stepped, the 4G64 is. That kit should bolt up just fine.

One more question... do I get the gst throw out bearing? The one for the turbo?

2.0T and 2.4 spyder use the same TOB

Ordered the above exedy kit and flywheel, OEM throw out bearing, Mitsubishi mtf 75w-85 tranny fluid and a new cv boot (cuz mine was tore up). Can’t wait to install it!

Also got the mesh on the bumper, new fog lights ordered. Water temp gauge is ready to be hooked up. And a t fitting for the oil pressure gauge.

I ordered the OEM throw out bearing... it doesn’t look like the one that was in there... the one that came in the kit looks identical to the one that was in the transmission... now I’m confused....which one should I use?

i would use the oem
they could be different because mitsubishi has an updated part that is smaller (not sure how its measured) than the original. its also went from (4g6_) AWD and FWD having a different TOB to all using the same bearing

Ok. Can I use the same bracket? It doesn’t have that groove to sit snuggly in like the other throw out bearings...

Transmission is finally back in!!! Thanks for all the help!!

Now I just have to fix my tore up cv joint boot!! Lol. Dsm work never ends.

I have a 2g Esi DSM and have found the easiest way to get to the fill plug on the transmission is as follows....

1-Remove battery and battery tray
2-Remove brake fluid reservoir and windshield washer fluid reservoir and move them off to the side
3- Look down behind the splash shield for the tire and behind the cv axle and you will see a rubber plug on the side of the transmission.
4- Pull and twist until plug is removed.
5- Check and fill tranny fluid as needed (Refer to owners manual for transmission fluid type)

Well, I found this while researching it... what would happen if someone put tranny fluid in there?
