So I got a forward facing oil filter housing, gasket and hardware. Half way through changing the stock unit I realized there is no prevision to run the oil cooler...SON OF A!!!! Well, that was a waste of $67...

*sigh* I guess I'll have to cut up and re-weld the waste gate dump pipe... I was going to just swap out the oil filter housing to a forward facing one so I didn't have to pull the dump pipe every time I change the oil filter....

Agreed.
I got rid of my cooler as I didn't get oil temp up with it, and it was super tight with the filter placement (aftermarket sandwich adapter) so I had to use a smaller filter.

I still don't get very high oil temps, but it's about 40-50* higher than with the cooler, about 160-170* on steady trips over 30 min.

Racing of certain kinds is really the only reason a dsm should need one, imho.

Factory liquid cooler is a different story, I'd call it Kore of an oil temp "stabilizer". Factory air to liquid I assume got fazed out for numerous reasons.

Are you saying after removing it you only got oil temps of 160-170*? In what kind of weather?

Spring weather in the northwest, so prolly 65* outside. I'm also reading off an innovate gauge that reads in bars, so I may be 10 or so degrees off. My temp sensor also isn't in the pan, but on the oil manifold that goes from the FF ofh to the turbo, so it probably drops a few degrees there. (I plan to relocate the sensor to the pan once I put the aluminum one on, not high priority right now)

But before that my oil temps wouldn't even register to above the 120* bar, and I had a thermostatic oil filter sandwich that was supposed to open at 190*, fully open by 200* (tested it and it seemed to be pretty accurate).

Also for reference, Im currently using delo 5w40 full synthetic, old oil cooler readings were with vr1 20w50, not that I think it has a massive bearing on the temp.

Bar is pressure, degrees is temperature.

x atmospheric @ sea level if i'm not mistaken. like 2 bar = 14.7psi x 2 which would be 29.4psi. So yeah, not sure what kind of measurement his gauge is giving him. If Celsius 160*c would be like 320*F.

No no no, as in the temperature function of the innovate gauge is shown in actual "bars" around the edge of the gauge, each representing a rough temperature estimate in 10* increments, which I have set to show from 120* to 320*. Not that it matters, but the led bars also show green, Amber and red zones to help you know if youre in trouble.

OKAY, that makes a lot more sense.
