Iv recently wanted to get back into the DSM scene, so Iv been browsing my local area and came across this 2g Gs-t.

I'm going to look at it later today and I just had one question to ask everyone here. From the picture posted below it seems that there is oil all around the head. Would this be an easy problem to fix? I was guessing just replacing the head gasket would be fine, but i'm not sure. This car seems to be very stock and I believe an old women has owned it, so I'm hoping it hasn't be hacked apart anywhere.. Opinions?

Could be as simple as replacing the valve cover gasket. I'd definitely check it out

Sorry, I mean't VC gasket. Its been awhile. LOL
I was thinking the same thing as well, as long as that is the only problem it should be an easy fix.
Thanks for the replies!

So I went and looked at it. A big pro is the guy said his wife has owned it for 15 years and never drove it hard. It is 100% bone stock. After checking it out the 2 problems I noticed is that oil leaking out of the VC and It seems to have ran quite far down the motor on the left side, and when I looked under the front of the car there was oil all over around the oil filter and block/transmission? The second thing is in both of Rear wheelwells on the lower frontside part of the frame of the car is rusted pretty bad like where the side skirt connects to the car. Not sure if that is pretty common on 2gs or not. Other than that there wasn’t rust anywhere else including NON on the strut towers. It seems to drive fine, didn’t stutter or shake. There was smoke coming out from under the hood but I believe it was just all that oil burning. I wasn’t able to get on it to hard but it did seem to build boost ok. What do you all think? Asking price is $3000.

E/ I also just remember the exhaust was rusted in half back by the muffler which I think is to be expected with stock exhaust on a 97. Lol

$3000 is a bit steep in my opinion. It's a 21 year old car with rust and oil leaks, I'd point out the noticable flaws and offer ~$2200. You're going to have to spend $500-$800 on it with repairs right off the bat on the low end assuming you're capable of doing them yourself. Oil down the left side of the motor tells me there is oil in the timing cover. You're looking at minimum a timing job, rust repair (that is a common spot on 2Gs), and a new exhaust.

I picked up my 96 GST probably 2 months ago now for $1700. Had pretty much same problems the one you looked at has, ended up being a cracked valve cover, but still have leaks on the bottom so gotta do oil pan gasket but anyways $3k is a little steep imo I would wait unless it has super low miles that I missed.

I want to first say thanks a lot for the info amigos, I really appreciate it!

@jinscho i was def thinking of offering a bit less after discovering the the problems, thanks for the input.

@AyyOmar the miles are 118xxx.
I was just really interested in the car bc it’s a 2nd owner for 15 years and it is bone stock, 0 aftermarket parts so I figure that added some value. Thanks for the info!

The unmolested aspect is definitely a positive, but the seller still needs to understand it's not a pristine car anymore either. 118k with rust and leaks, I'd say 2k would be a fair offer in my honest opinion. Just be up front with the seller, let them know you're interested in bringing it back to showroom quality and enjoying it if you're lucky for another 15 years, but that you're realistic with the costs of achieving that. Hopefully they're reasonable and you can get back on the DSM bandwagon! :hellyeah:

For sure! Thanks a lot.
I’ll let you guys know tomorrow what comes of it! :)

Well there goes that’s idea...
I haven’t dealt with someone this rude in awhile. The search goes on. :(

Wow... I always love when someone assumes you can't afford something and that's why you're offering less. It's so hard for them to comprehend that what they're asking just isn't worth the cost..

Good luck on the hunt!
