I guess there aren't very many Laser AWDs left, since they were not plentiful to begin with, and all 1Gs. I have been thinking about selling this one though, could use some simplification.

keep it once you get the bugs fix it will all be worth it!

Would love to invade Honda space and take over. Should have by far the fastest cars. Lol I'm running low 10s hoping to swap turbos and get into the 9s.

Where you at? I'm in Memphis. Just pulled the transmission out to put the twin disk in and CC forged clutch fork. Also new slave, master and pedal assembly.

I'm actually in nashville Arkansas now. I lived in the Southaven MS area for around 3 years before deciding to move here. Looking to get back to a more populated area though, this living out in the sticks is for the birds. (ucwutididthur)

Kei you going to pick up another DSM sometime soon?

Maaan, I've got a 98 tsi fwd sitting in the driveway just wasting away. We don't ever drive it. Ever. Runs just fine. Needs a dent fixed in the rear quarter but it's nice. Brand new rims and rubber, too. Lol. Just never compelled to mess with it.

Also, those JDM trans, transfercase, and rear end have different ratios. They are not comaparable with USDM cars at all without swapping out some parts (transmission) If one part is used in the system, it will bind them. You can google or search on here for more information.

Like you i have JDM evo3 trans in my 1995 gsx. The only to make it work is to swap out some ring gears and that's what i have to do to mine.

Check and see if that is the culprit. Jacks transmission did a nice video on how you can find out what ratios you have on youtube.
Hi, I have been preoccupied and only now discovered your reply. When we did the swap out, we changed out the transmission and engine and any accessories that needed to be swapped. Initially we swapped out the transfer case as well, but it howled like a banshee and we put the original back on. Since that time we have been back and forth with the two transfer cases but it had no effect on our primary problem with the bucking and fighting. I do not know if the remaining components are causing the problem due to lack of compatibility. Could it be the CV joints or the rear axle? The problem has always felt as if it was in the front wheel drive portion to me. If the CV joints are wrong, how can I determine which CV joint to install?

Also, recently while having it evaluated in my local dealer shop, the rear carrier bearing was found to have a lot of slop in it. The front one seems solid. I think it may have been replaced. I ordered a new Mopar rear carrier bearing and will have it installed, though I seriously doubt that is going to fix the problem.

I still think it's your transmission. Check out Jacks youtube. You can find out exactly what ratios you have by following his directions. Jackstransmission

I am going to research this based on your information. We replaced the carrier bearing, and of course it had no effect. The service manager has suggested we put some friction modifier in the limited-slip rear axle. That should be easy and cheap, and I am assuming that we have nothing to lose by trying it.

Do you think this applies to 1G cars like my '92 AWD? I was about to watch the video, and it appears that the tech is talking about 2G drivetrains.

Hey guys, nwa calling in. Been years since I sat down and started playing on here again. I'm Tyler and close friends with manticshadow. His gsx is still being built, but nearing the end of the rebuild. I drive a '97 minden silver gst. Some of you might know me. Still trying to remember how to share pics on here, but how many of us are left on here?

I have the original drivetrain from my '92 Laser AWD. Am about to let it go to metal recycling due to difficulty in finding a place to keep it. The engine was jumping time, the tranny was not shifting very well and the transfer case was howling. The turbo probably was fine. Should I go to a lot of trouble to keep this stuff or just let it go?

I wonder if there are any identifying numbers on the manual transmissions to distinguish different versions.

Are you in Arkansas?

Keep it. They are rare, find a shell and work on it as a hobby.

Looks like nobody ever posts on here any more. That is too bad. I enjoyed checking in once in a while to see how projects were going, etc.

check out ARmitsu too on facebook.
As I mentioned before, I have the original drivetrain from my '92 Laser AWD turbo (which has the same unsolved problems as years ago but is still a blast to drive), and I have it stored but need to do something with it before too many months go by. I am going to have to move it and don't have great options for alternate storage. When it was removed, the head had jumped time twice in two hundred miles. The transmission was shifting sloppily (shock!) and the transfer case was fine, but I swapped it out with one that howled. Had 127k miles on the car at the time as I recall.

Im still here. Just logged back in. Since last time being here. Ive awd swapped my gst, installed evo 8 brembos, speed density, and will soon begin wire tucking my dsm. Car has turned out great and really rewarding. Hope to meet some of you guys out there. Im still up here in northwest arkansas.
