I do, and it is, its a retrofit unit from a nissan and is not yet programmeable but he is working on it, its due to the unit basically running via the main ecu which dont help so once he figures out a way to break the codeing it should be then programmeable

Bobby,

Do you have any more info on this Nissan unit? What model/year car it is out of? If this is more easy to adapt and package than the other OEM column EPS setups I have seen guys do then I would totally be in for this. I'm no stranger to coding and CAN comms either so even if I have to make up a controller for it myself I would be interested.

Either way I have a spare rack and so I may get in on this group buy just so I don't miss out and give the manual steering a try.

Thanks for keeping up the work on this!

Its an Altima 2015 unit, he said its going to be a plug and play unit so the least possible to do which is good,

If you think you can help further eith the coding etc give me a pm and we can chat about getting it done or try to. Would be nice to have it programmeable for anyone to adjus to their requirements

Well I have looked at the '14-Up Altima stuff in the past when I was looking to do an Electric-Hydraulic pump conversion on my car. Both the 3.5 and the 2.4 Altima in those years use a traditional hydraulic rack and this pump:

It's an excellent solution to going electric on the factory rack but it's not going to work on the non power rack gears. Maybe its a system from the newest cars he's talking about? Not sure what the most current stuff has.

I read it wrong. Its a nissan Sentra unit,

hey folks, just bringing this back for a bit, so i just ran through the numbers and i have counted 40 people interested in the racks, specifically 23 for Ps and 17 for manual but will use the same racks, the PS guys will have to go the route of an EPS setup via this guy that I have found that uses this setup in his own car!

if this is the ok and everyone is ok to proceed should I start getting a real thread going on this to make this happen? but they did say very specifically they HAD to have 30!!!! no less for the first order.

Still looking for more info on the Sentra EPS conversion. If that is fairly simple to implement then I am all in for sure on the manual rack GB.

Same. Epspecially as far as complicity and price.

I have asked for some more details and pics to help show it, once i have some details i will post it up

I'm in for the manual rack now. I'm very interested in the electric power option discussed above. If that doesn't work out, I'll build myself a unit.

I'm out. I can't take on the project now or in the foreseeable future.

EPS is not legal in my class. :(

Wanting confirmation that this will be a true manual conversion, not simply a depowered rack? I have to do some research on manual steering with very wide slicks and autocross.

My steering rack is in need of replacement so this is perfect timing. Whats the price range?

The rack housing is depowered as in holes filled,

the rack and pinion are 100% proper manual version thats why it cannot be used with fluid PS at all or ever be, its a custom rack and pinion.

You follow tuttle right, we he went wide recently and just a deoowered rack and said it is good when racing but i know its not AutoX and slower tight corners,

But what im bringing to the table it a proper manual setup

Well, the Eclipse is driving now for the first time since January and the rack is leaking worse than ever. I'm in. Still undecided on the electric assist. I'm very interested, but I'd like to feel the manual rack before making that decision. I'm down for a group buy thread.

Did you mention any kind of timeframe with this? I'm curious how long they will have my rack and what the lead time on pinion production will be. I'm just trying to decide if I want to send in my rack or if I want to buy a used rack for modification so I can keep driving the car.

The good thing im trying to do here is get an item out then can be adapted to later on like the EPS system so those that want the assist can do down the road, the rack stays the same no matter what and those who dont wont. At least the manual rack will be out there for everyone to have as if this chance passes it certainly wont happen again, at least not by me anyway and im the closest to these guys on the forum LOL,

Time line TBA, if i could have this done before Dec thats great, they said something like upto 12 week production time then about 2 weeks from me to EMW's shop, then i dont know his time line im afraid so i cannot speak on his behalf on that.

For now i would say get a used rack to keep the car moving, worse case is you got a rack to have it depowered anyway just with the same ratio

Just to make sure I have read this right, the Electronic option would just assist the power steering so you still have the feel? Or is it more like a full electronic steering without the feel?

No, its a complete new system you would be installing so the old hydraukic stuff goes, the new EPS is mounted in the dash area (most systems are) and thats your assist,

The feel comes from feedback via sensors, advanced kits can be costly but come with the most amount of sensors and adjustability, it also tends to be speed or rpm based aswel so it ovvers more assistance for slower speeds and cuts it off for higher speeds so the main arvantage is mainly parking is easier and slow speed stuff,

Racing it will be minimal if any but that does depend on system,

Would this also include Brandon's depowering service as well?
He will be making the rack housing depowered and closing all the holes up as normal yes,

Then he will put together the new manual rack and pinion into said housing and do what he does to set them up
