I have a 98 GSX that developed this on my way to work today. At first it was faint and then it was prominent and the CEL came on. 2 days ago I had this same problem and it was just that the hose to the throttle body had come off because I forgot to tighten the clamp. I tightened it and went on my way. When I popped my hood on the side if the road the hose was clearly clamped down. I can't get past I'd say 3500 rpm without it not accelerating. I'm going to check the CEL when I limp it home later. Recently I changed the plugs wires and coil packs and had to remove the fuel rail if that means anything

My lawnmower does exactly the same thing :D. When I give it more gas, it stalls LOL. I am thinking the mixture is too rich. Or the air filter is dirty and not enough oxygen is getting thru.:tease:

You won't know without further diagnosis. Check the entire intake side. Boost leak test it. Get the cel code and diagnose that then get back with us. Beyond that I don't see what other advice could be given unless you want to start a whole hosts of tests.

What mods? Do you have an aftermarket intercooler? It's all guesses by what information you've provided and not having a mod list. My guess is that you've got a rather significant boost leak. I'd start there and really scrutinize the stock smic given the age they like to corrode and leak.

Car is stock. Threw a PO303 code cylinder 3 missfire. Odd because I changed all plugs wires and coil packs a few days ago. I had to take the fuel rail off. My theory is a faulty injector or signal to the injector

Replaced the injector. Cleaned up all the other injectors. All the seals. Mating surfacces. Ran Seafoam through the entire thing. I'm still losing power. Almost like gas is cutting out above 3k rpm. I'm officially stumped

Did it have this problem before you changed coil, plugs and wires? If you are getting a real misfire it will do that. Throw an old spark plugs and in number 3 cylinder if that doesn't work try an old wire on number 3 cylinder and if that doesn't work try an old coil .

There was a tiny misfirr after it idled for a bit I was trying to fix. Not sure how new everything could make it worse. I'm pretty sure I threw out the old stuff because it ran fine directly after replacement

You can also try moving the number 3 injector to a different cylinder and see if the misfire folows that. These are free quick ways to rule out some problems. I would then boost leak test the car. Probably one of the best things you can do to rule out problems. Check the tps And compression test the car next. Bad o2 sensor bad mass air bad fuel pump clogged fuel filter are a few more things that can exhibit these problems.

After all that you've done and the misfire is still on 3 it's time to start compression and leak down testing. You may have a base engine issue. I wouldn't rule out wiring to the injector or even a faulty plug wire either. But with the injector I could see you getting a circuit code along with the p0303. I'd swap out the #3 plug wire with another and recheck then do the compression and leakdown. I wouldn't assume a new part is good either I've had several defective new parts.

Ended up being a faulty new coil pack. Put one in made by Bosch, running fine now.
