I posted a few years ago about visual differences between a 1g intake manifold and a Hyundai Sonata manifold. Information on it is scarce and I believe a wiseman on here was running it on a 2g head because it has small ports stock. I finally found one in the junkyard again and decided to open the small ports to match the 1g port. It's only about a inch into the runner with a very smooth transition. I like this manifold because it has a very large plenum with slightly shorter and small port runners along with a stock appearance. I'm going to run this mated to a ported 1g head and see how it behaves on the street. I'm curious to see if the manifold has better torque or top end differences over the 1g. It may be total crap who knows.
Anyone have any more information on this manifold?

What TB are you using with it? Does a 1g TB bolt up? I'm interested for a 2g. I ported out my mani to gasket match my 1g TB which was a PITA and curious if I'd have to do it again with the sonata mani.

I have this same manifold but I've never used it. It was between this and my rvr, I chose the rvr. I'm kinda curious if the longer runners and bigger plenum would make for better low end. I'd imagine that it would be comparable to a 1g intake.

I'll be using a stock 1g turbo TB. Direct bolt on and no porting! Interestingly enough it comes with a variant of a NT 1g TB (I believe the ISC is a little different) which should work with the proper turbo shaft seals. Besides the differences I noted above the EGR, coil pack bracket and PTU bracket are exactly the same as 1g parts. Just moving my coils and stock PTU over to it. Here it is bead blasted and I smoothed the runners better.

Interesting. I'm intrigued. Let us know how it runs! I want to see this thing installed. What gasket will you use?
So if I'm running this on a 2g head with a 1g TB you're telling me it's a bolt on affair? That would be tits!
I just realized there's no spot for the 2g MDP sensor. I'd have to figure out how to mount it somewhere.

Not trying to hijack but I picked one up for $20 off eBay. Why the hell not. Seemed to be the only 96-98 I found. I deleted my emissions stuff years ago so I can just ditch my MDP or relocate with a $20 adaptor. I won't be touching this til spring and it'll be going on a 2g so I'll do my own write up when the time comes. Meanwhile I'm waiting patiently for your review Jimmy!

Nice! You will have to reshape the port exit to match the 2g gasket as you can see above that the port is more oval shaped. Obviously plenty of meat there. I got mine off of a 97 Sonata. I believe this manifold is only available on 96-98. It's pretty cool being a 2.0 G4CP that's a 6 bolt with a crank sensor. It also has a 2ga CAS under the intake cam gear. Definitely a mutant engine. I will be finishing my build very very soon. I'll update when I can with any other information pertaining to the manifold. Here is the G4CP

Nice for thinking outside the box and trying different things, I dont see how there will be much advantage to it especially on top end output because your choking down the advantage of the big port head, your 6 bolt setup is going to flow about the same as a 7 bolt setup unless you ported it out to 6 bolt specs all the way through, your basically going to have a big plenum 7 bolt flow wise, but with a difference in response time.

I get what you are saying 100%. Im not looking for max race car power. I'm looking for streetcar attributes for the common broke DSMer that can't afford a SMIM and for guys that don't want to track their car but still look for a good affordable bolt on manifold. I have a stock 1g waiting if this manifold isn't any good. In time I'll see :)

My stock 2g manifold inlet is ported to match my 1g TB and I've been wanting to replace it or at least spruce it up. It's one of the few things Ieft that hasn't been replaced. I noticed throttle response time improved noticeably once I installed the TB so even if it stays the same I'll be happy. This is more aesthetic at this point. I think the sonata manifold will look sweet once I clean it and paint it wrinkle black to match my valve cover. Speaking of valve cover, Jimmy are you rockin the Hyundai vc as well? I like how that one doesn't have the Hyundai logo.

There were a few threads on using the sonata head. Here's one:

Edit: got it today, here it is with a 2g gasket. Interesting fitment considering where the outline of the sonata gasket is. Very little porting if any needs to be done.

Nice that looks simple in terms of porting. I also like the look of the manifold as well. Hopefully there is added performance! Here are some side by sides with my 1g manifold. As you can see I like the shaved look. (Yes I run the Hyundai VC too but it's also shaved haha)

Updating this thread, car is up and running. Breaking in the motor currently and once this is done I'm putting on my 1150cc injectors. (I used the stock 450s for break in). So far I'd have to say the car feels good even at WG pressure. It definitely feels like it wants to take the hell off. So even after switching to the 1g ported head/+1mm valves/272 cams along with the Sonata intake, it feels just a peppy as my stock 2g head/intake. I do feel compression has something to do with that also. 8:5 to (now)10:5. Basically too many variables here. But as long as I end up making good power it's not a failure so I'm ok with that.

Well it's been about a long month and about 800 miles since the installation. Coolant leaked into the manifold, blown ptu and my isc locked up during that time and to top it all off apparently my base ignition timing was retarded also. Had a friend use a timing light and he set it for about 5*. I didn't realize he never grounded the ECU. Been driving around like that since the motor install :|:ohdamn:. So I bought a light and did it myself. It was like a totally different animal. Very pleased with the newly found torque. Ironically I thought it "felt good" when I first drove the car so this was a very nice surprise.

Got quoted on a dyno tune for about 600. Street tune is 300. Not sure what I'm gonna do yet. In the process of buying a house now so I need to figure it out soon. I'm a complete noob at tuning and not familiar with SD.... :(
