The 2G is a stripper car, so depending on your point of view that either makes it the clear winner or the reason you had to spend your memorial day weekend in 2006 getting penicillin shots in unpleasant places :ohdamn:
true. tell people you own an eclipse. first thing they say is it a fast and furious car. say no it is the a generation before that model. owning a 94 eclipse gs 4g63 nt....yet i had traded for 97 eclipse before i sold it and bought the 94. the 97 was a 420a engine with auto trans. trans in limp mode. lesson learned. so i hunted around. no automatic dsm only looking at 5 speed cars. don not know how the 1st gen autos were like the 420a autos.

This threads sound like a bunch of people having buyer remorse. Sorry for you guys. I though our DSM community was supposed to be united & supporting each other from the other yahoo ricer groups. What a dividing thread topic. A few folks on here should consider going into politics. A lot of politicians are trying as hard as possible to divide our nation. Go figure?

Are you serious with this crap right now? YOU are the one injecting stupid ass politics into the topic.. :banghead: HOW MANY TIMES do I have to say that this was nothing more than a lighthearted debate between FAMILY members of the DSM community?(it seems only you and 1 or 2 others are taking for it anything but that, 4 pages worth of banter as a matter of fact). There is/was ZERO disrespect given or intended for either platform, maybe you should relax and have a nice cold beverage, you are getting bent for no reason..

I think you may have FINALLY hit the nail on the head with that synopsis, 2G's are for girls(strippers) and 1G's are for MEN.. ;) LOL
This is good stuff, I chat often with Vegas .He's good people .I live just talking about DSM now .I have 90 awd Talon and I'm gonna be 52 next month .My wife is 38, doesn't like 1 g , likes 2-3. Oh well. Only have 1 seat in it anyway LOL

Blame all the 2g fanatics on this guy. But what if he was driving a 1g? Would anything be different?

My automatic 1G 6-bolt got verified crank walk. Lol

As to this thread, it's all personal preference. I love both and both have their place. I love DSMs as a whole, anyone that blindly defends one side with any real zeal is stupid and not a true DSM'er.

I am sorry that your

On a automatic? That's some luck right there. I guess it could happen on any car but it just had to happen to me. I had a nice 97 red with beige leather and black dash. Really nice. If I would to see another one somewhere on a lot I would look at it but I don't know if I would pull the trigor.

I love both gens, 1g's were just would I could afford. 2gs still go for a premium in my area, the only thing I've never liked about the 2g is the interior feels extra cheap and grandma car like. The 1g interior feels like a cockpit very sports car like, which is it's main draw for me, I like cars that just suck you in. If you could have 2g exterior with 1g interior it would be perfect.
But dsms are getting hard to find in my area, 10 years ago they were plentiful now we get a clump of like 6 on the classifieds a year then it's drought the rest of the year....makes me feel bad I've sent 4 to dsm heaven

GVR4s are for the real men! :nono::tease::rocks:

Where are people finding Galants?!?!? In my area they are JDM imports and cost $12,000-15,000 for RHD. Galants are the sexiest sleeper known to mankind

As for 1g vs. 2g I was able to buy this car because the original owner said she preferred 1g... So naturally I have mixed feelings!!

Also 2g interior looks like a 90s greyhound... Just looking at it I catch a faint waft of puke and cigarette butts, cant wait to gut it

Occasionally they can be found frozen to the ground in the middle of winter during a polar vortex year in the middle of the night in the middle of a cornfield being sold for $1000 by questionable individuals.... not that I've had a personal experience with this or anything. Lessons learned: take a friend, have all wheel drive and winter tires, a ratchet strap is not a come-along.

Now i want to hear this story, sounds similar to one of my own... haha

I went to my first auto show when I was younger (1989 World Congress center in Atlanta) The DSM cars were so new. I had brochures for all of them, at the time. My prediction to my friends, at the time was, these cars would be timeless just as muscle cars are for people like my father. I was in highschool at the time and my dad used to have a 69 camaro. Fastforward nearly 30 years and put a freshly painted, well kept talon, eclipse, laser, stealth, 3000 gt next to a new car. Not only will it look modern but, it will hold its own, in top trim, performance wise. Only the computer aspect (debateable based on preferences and use of the car) has changed.

In another 30 years, these cars will be rare but, still timeless. I have had 7 of these cars, over the years. I have 2 talons and an eclipse at the moment and all have been 1gs. They are just amazing in almost every way.

My bias opinion, ;) , is that, if the 2g was so good, why did sales fall off so badly that Chrysler and Mitsubishi canceled in 98.... ;) I realise one could argue this about the 94 model year but, there were 3 versions at that time and making the 2g a convertible, could not even save it....

The 2gs were decent but, the 1gs were where the magic was at and always had been. ;)

I saw "GVR4" on Craiglist. I saw that it was not wrecked and it came with a bunch of spares, but it wasn't running either. I rented a uhaul trailer after work that same day, hooked it up the 4Runner and drove two hours north to the middle of f***ing nowhere. The place looked like they "cooked", and so did the individuals that stumbled out of the house when we arrived. So, we started to get the car onto the trailer at around 10 PM and didn't leave until about 1 AM. It was frozen to the ground and one of the brakes was completely seized. We used my 4Runner with all 3 diffs on full luck, a chain, and a bit of a running start to break the ice loose. Then, with frozen fingers, removed a caliper with the wheel still on (that was fun). Finally we pulled the car onto the trailer 6" at a time with a ratchet strap. After that, the car was dubbed "FUBAR" and the theme of everything being extremely difficult has persisted throughout the build.
