So I searched and couldn't find a definite answer to my question and I just want to make sure. So somehow the wiring of my knock sensor got chewed up/frayed and I'm going to rewire it. The white wire on the knock sensor goes to the red wire on the harness but the black wire on the sensor/harness is just a ground wire correct? So would it be ok do connect the red and white wires and ground the black wire from the sensor to a ground in the engine bay somewhere? I'm asking this b/c the ground/black wire that the black wire normally goes to in the harness is really messed up so I would rather not hook it up to that wire if not necessary. Thanks

Ok ground the black wire, and fix the wire that goes to the ecu.

The wire that goes to the ECU is fine. The white wire on the sensor is connected to the red wire on the harness, which I'm pretty sure goes from a red wire back to a white wire where it connects to the ECU at pin 78. My question is can I ground the knock sensor wire to the chassis or does it need to be grounded to the ECU?

So I have basically the same issue with my 1ga Eagle Talon Tsi. I have the knock sensor that has the connector piece on it but the other side does not how do I go about getting it connected so I don't have any issues. Pictures if you have any would be great.

I'm not saying don't do it, and I'm sure others have done this successfully, but keep in mind the signal may not be as accurate after rewiring it, those sensors can be super fiddly. I've tried fixing just a frayed shield/ground wire and it didn't work at all. Got a used sensor in stead. Good luck in any case!

So do I have to hard wire from the sensor to the ecu or can I possibly use the sensor connector and get the other connector off of the main harness?

For bets results you want to wire your sensor grounds into the ground for the ECU. The ECU has grounds wire that the sensors tie to for a more constant 5v circuit. The sensors are 0-5v devises instead of 0-12v from the electrically system.

Ok cool. Thank you so much.
So going through the same thing with my knock sensor pigtail did you ever get this resolved and did you go with the rewire or go off the stock setup?
I’m getting knock sensor malfunction circuit 1 with exactly 3.2 of knock at low rpm already replaced knock sensor still got the code.
Replaced ecu with a spare one with ecm link same thing. Checking for continuity Tom but just wanna get some info on how to go about this whole thing. I was just going to run a log and use a wrench to tap block and see if I get knock to make sure sensor is working properly and doing it’s job maybe and I’m getting real knock...???
