:hmm: I just did the swap, and the starter bolted right up and starts the car perfectly. Where did you get this info?

that might be true on a 1g but us 2g's the A/T starter has a longer throw to the flywheel, you've absolutly got to get the M/T starter and shim to do the swap.

:dsm:

Which shim are you referring too?

good point? are you talking about the round aliment pin or the actual tin plate that is in between the tranz and the block,

the aliment pins are the same

the tin plates are diff..... 100% diff actually. all it changes is how are were the starter sits, plus both starters are different.

the auto one is kinda short and fat about 4" wide by 6 " long, while the m/t starter is longer and about 3" around and 8" long ish....

Just tryin to add my thoughts, it might help:hellyeah:

I'm guessing you're talking about a 2g. The starter plate is different between the autos and manuals, but the starters are definitely the same.

I would assume the OP is talking about a 2G according to his profile.

I don't know of any shim's so to say on a 2G manual, theirs the block to trans alignment dowel pins, then the starter plate. On the auto's however their is a "shim" so to say that goes into the crank that helps locate the flexplate for the torque converter.

Again, I said he must have been talking about a 2g. Judging by your sig pic, you are too. The starters WILL interchange on a 1g. Makes no difference either way, I think the OP has a 2g.

^^^ yea im talking about a 2g, the OP too. ^^^

i like how above we were arguing about the starters when all the OP wanted to know is if he needed a different shim.

:dsm:

I know, I noticed that after I posted the third time. Good luck with the swap, its different. Takes some getting used to, I've stomped the brake with my "clutch" foot more than once.

So in order to successfully do the 6bolt swap in 2g auto with kiggly kit you need to use a M/T starter??? This is what I am understanding because I am having this issue with the starter binding up... Sorry I know this is old!!!
