There are different threads out there regarding the different fluids but none seem to answer my questions.

I have been using the Amsoil Signature Multi-Vehicle Synthetic oil but recently burnt up my forward clutch(Don't know if it's related). I have been looking in to the the Amsoil Supershift Synthetic oil which is thought to provided firmer shifts with less slippage in the clutches, anyone have experience with this fluid?

I also called John at IPT who use to sell Amsoil but now he recommends just running an good named Dexron 6 fluid in the transmissions that he builds. Any downside to running the Dexron 6 synthetic fluid compared to the Mobil 1, Amsoil Multi or the Amsoil supershift?

I'm not big in to running the HyGard fluid but am considering the options now.

I switched to millers from royal purple and now my 3 to od slips and i cannot get RP here anymore, so i might have to go ams oil but its damn expensive here

I been reading the redline fluid is great! Its what im currently looking into

The problem with Redline is I can not find a local distributor so I have to order it online, I can get Amsoil a block from my house for 11.50 per qt. I don't mind spending the money but also don't like to throw it away.

I always used valvoline atf+4 in my old auto 2g awd. Never had an issue. It was easily and readily available.

Seems like more people are using/recommending "base" synthetic ATFs compared to the high price stuff(Mobil/Amsoil). At half the price, it's enticing.

I wonder if that Amsoil Supershift can really help the clutches "bite" more without sacrificing lubrication of other components in the transmission?

What valvebody mods do you have? Upgraded clutches too?

I have an IPT shift kit with the line pressure adjustment and reducing pressure adjustment cranked up(counterclockwise). The front clutches are the kiggly 6 friction and the forward are new Raybestos clutch disks/plates from WITTrans.com. The rear clutches looked great so I did not replace them.

Running mobile 1 synthetic for over a year. So far so good. Did notice better cooling with synthetic vs what was in there. Probably original mitsu atf. Which still looked great btw...
Bought car with 71k and added the below mods at 73k:
OEM metal filter
IPT shift kit
IPT end clutch kit

Been over 3 years but I'm pretty sure I used redline. When I get back to the shop I'll check what exactly I used. I have spare quarts left over. I have a fully built tranny. everything you can upgrade is upgraded. Granted, I don't use my dsm much at all but tranny still behaves flawlessly. I used redline in the tcase and rear diff as well. Welded center dif and factory LSD rear end. If that matters

*I could be totally wrong. My memory doesn't serve me well since I turned 30 hahaha

Good question, I never had an issue with the Valvoline atf+4 fluid so I never tried anything else. I had a basic end clutches and shift box on my old Auto Awd and it worked great.

I ended up going with the Amsoil SuperShift. The first drive went great! The car is shifting in to all gears and there appears to be no leaks. Looks like the VB and clutch rebuild was a success!

It does shift more "firm" but that is also likely to do with the increased pressure from maxing out the line pressure adjustment.

As a transmission rebuilder, use atf+4 the stuff is synthetic anyway and there has never been any problems with it, however there have been problems with other companies snake oil.

Redline Synthetic High Temp Racing ATF here. It's decently priced, if you buy it in the gallon size, vs individual quarts:

https://www.redlineoil.com/high-temp-atf

I've been running this is the same trans now, for some 9 years now... and in a previously built (used) trans for some 12 years before that

Side note: I've also ran a bottle of Lube Guard's Black friction modifier additive, with each fluid & pan filter service (from the suggestion I got from IPT, many moons ago)

Do you think the lube guard is needed with the Amsoil? Wouldn't it contradict the supershift/grip of it to lubing it more?

Use the lube guard in the RED bottle not the black if your already using highly friction modified transmission fluid, the black is made to convert regular fluid to hfm fluid so that shops dont have to stock multiple fluids when they do fluid flush and fills. Ive been using lube guard in my rebuilds for years and highly recommend it in any transmission, its about the only transmission product out there that is NOT snake oil.

I am planning to replace whatever unknown tranny oil came in my donor with DEXRON VI spec oil.
DEXRON VI with viscosity cSt @ 100ºC = 5.83 and viscosity index 145 exceeds the 1990 Mitsu recommended oil w/ viscosity specs of SEA 75W-85W GL-4 viscosity @ 100°C cSt = 12 and index 198. Dexron VI is more advanced, most shear-stable and at the same time satisfies and exceeds API 70W/75W/80W GL-4 while preventing sludge and deposit formation. But that's just me...
