I'm getting a vibration that starts to get noticable at 55, then grows to a substantial vibration at 70. It's a fast, almost buzzing vibration that produces a slower "wah wah" at around 70. Yolk is new. New fluid in TC, tranny, and diff. There's also a noticeable separate vibration when I'm deceling, and it's louder with speed as well.
I don't suspect wheel balance, as I drove it home for 2 hours on that exact wheel/tire setup without these issues.
What bits in the driveline can cause this kind of vibration?

Is the decel vibration related to braking? For example warped rotors or does it do it when braking and not braking?

I've tried pressing the brakes to see if it improved, it didn't. I did piece together a driveshaft due to the previous owner disassembling the cv joint and losing some of the ball bearings inside. I got the car as fwd with some awd parts, but it is an original awd car. Could that piece together driveshaft be out of balance?

I would guess this is a bad wheel bearing issue. Does the vibration stop or get even louder when you turn the wheels in either direction compared to straight forward? Any vibration in the steering wheel?

I tried to so some turning to see, but no change. I wouldn't think a wheel bearing would cause this unless it's reeeaaally gone.

Just to be sure, I'd physically check the wheels for any play. Anything can happen with these old cars. I'm not sure what else could cause it that hasn't already been mentioned.

I got a quote for 50$ to balance the driveshaft. I'm going to get that done, as well as check the wheels. Rotate the tires to see if that helps. Thanks for the input.

Possible rear hub bearing talking to you.

The thing is, it didn't do this when I drove it home from where I bought it. Since then I've rebuilt the motor. And reinstalled the awd system. The car still had the rear diff in it, but it had a fwd transmission. He grenaded the TC, which is why he did the swap.

Got new tires and an alignment today. It feels like the vibration is better, but that could be placebo. After I got home I pulled the DS and dropped it off to get balanced. I'm picking it up Friday and I'll give another update.

Got the shaft back from the shop. They couldn't balance it because a carrier bearing was out of wack. Replaced that along with the U joint next to it and I'm still having the issue. It'll be going back to the shop with the other new carrier bearing once it gets here.

any news if your car got fixed cause im having the same issue shaking while driving and a booming sound from the rear end what was it that you did to fix the issue.

A bad inner CV joint can do this exact thing, only problem is you can't get a feel for which one it is and we have 4 so it is a guessing game. He said he pieced back together the awd system so I wonder if he put a bad axle back in. I absolutely guarantee that drive shaft was also out of balance and that was probably the real problem.

I would suspect if the car have a non spring hub clutch disc it could cause that problem I had experience a similar problem many years ago and it got worst on deceleration. Since then I only use spring hub clutch disc. Also replacing the second driveshaft support bearing should help.

Any update on this? Having similar problems and I know my carriers are shot, can I replace just the bearings or do I need to tear apart my shafts as well?

Bump.

Recently developed a similar vibration/shudder during slow acceleration, part throttle cruise and decel with and without the clutch depressed. I'm at 106kmi now and hardly ever drive it. I replaced the factory TC fluid last year with redline lw shockproof but I highly doubt that is the cause. I know my front right outer CV is dry but I don't feel any of the vibration in the steering wheel. The vibes seem to originate somewhere from the tcase back to the rear diff.

Put your car in Neutral, set the parking brake good and then see if the driveshaft will wobble at all if you grab it and try to wiggle it.
