Wanted to stop by and say hello and introduce myself and what I am working on. First off I have been browsing this forum for years. Over the years I have learned a lot. Mark seems to be the 420a wiseman. I am Tim from Newark OH.
I bought a 420a 99 eclipse with 100k miles a couple years ago. I drove it for a couple weeks and spun a bearing. I decided to gamble and just drop the pan. I replaced all rod bearings with some king bearings. Also used the emery cloth on the crank. I noticed the rod that spun seemed to have damaged the sides of the rod and crank. Which caused excessive side clearance. I still went a head and ran it. Was mostly trouble free for about 1.5 years. Over that time I had to replace crank sensor, cam sensor and vac lines. Egr started sticking so deleted it. Then coolant temp sensor went bad during the coldest time of winter. Took a couple days to figure it out. Anyways engine wise it was fine for nearly 2 years. I decided since it started to have a minor head gasket leak to replace the headgasket, studs and rods with neon rt rods and LS bolts. Still had knock from side play(expected). After i got that done it got in an accident(not my fault.) It was declared totalled. I was given a check for $2.5k due to the amazing interior and low miles. I paid less then i was given for the car. Bought it back,I tried my hand at repairs and painting. I went for a custom mixed flat grey single stage. Looks nealry identical to primer. Currently the engine is sitting in my garage waiting for me to get the time to rebuild it. I am doing the weisco/ eagle combo with arp head studs and a felpro permatorque. Will be running a mild turbo setup using a blox fmu,fc1 wideband walbro 255LPHP (see been reading). Will likely run an ebay turbo (possibly cx racing). Will upgrade to megasquirt and namebrand turbo later as funds allow. I have 3 kids and a wife and other projects. I will post pics later on. Sorry for the long post.

Here are the pics. Some are of the different steps along the way. I have more but on a different sd card. The engine bay pic was taken about a year ago. It got painted as well.
Please keep in mind it is still a work in progress. Still have some loose ends to tie up and a lot of clean up. I am also considering sanding the car again and doing another paint job. Will still be the same color just not happy with the quality. I have also put the front bumper and lights back on. My 4 year old daughter and I did it one evening.

That was a nice payout when it got totalled! Look forward to seeing you rebuild it, you should start a build thread.
I was very happy with the payout. I will have to get pics together and my tablet out and do that at some point. My main goal is to have a little fun with the car and to keep another 2g on the road a while longer. Around here you don't see many of them anymore.

I see two 2g's driving around where I live, one is a little rough. Unfortunately mine isn't one of them LOL. Pretty sure I spun a bearing, but I don't have the space or money to fix it at the moment.

Mine is one of 5 I see driving around. Well mine isn't currently driving since it doesn't have an engine at the moment.
If time allows in about a month mine will be back on the road, with a turbo. As with you guys, the ones I see mostly don't look good and sure don't sound like they have been taken care of.

Maybe a little ricey. I added a rear strut bar and power antenna delete today. Reason for doing the strut bar is because i lost the covers for the rear struts. I WILL be painting the metal showing now also the entire car again. The antenna got removed because it was stuck and also leaked. I never listen to the radio( bluetooth ftw) so not like its a big loss to me. I also installed my cluster bezel that will hold my wideband and boost gauges. They are currently in post so hopefully next week will get them installed along with the FMU. After next paint job the car will have a protective nano ceramic coating applied professionally when the paint cures.

Yes i know it isn't a build log but i find it to be a way for people to get to know me. Imo this also shows that I'm not just another "kid" that is blowing smoke.
