Please note that the 2G intake gasket listed is actually a 1G part and will not substitute. Rockhead Auto, as they're known in the industry, refuses to take responsibility for this and will not cover returns. Since it costs more to ship than it's worth, I'll write it off.

This makes two out of two orders that these clowns haven't stood behind. I should have learned the first time.

They always give me store credit if I get something that isn't correct and half the time they just have me keep the part. Granted I have to wait another 4-5 days, but if I am mail ordering parts, I don't expect to have them that week, usually I order ahead of my work.

In both of my cases they did not cover their mistake, and in one, actually made a big fight about it.

Do you pay with PayPal? They don't give me any static, but PayPal will back me in a dispute and always has. That is why we suggest it on here when making a transaction in the classifieds and always do it as a business deal not a friend payment.

A personal choice that only you can make. I have done very well with them and am very satisfied with them for the past 5 years, but they haven't screwed up my orders. The very last one I received a set of brake shoes but they weren't for my car. They had me hold on to them for 2 weeks and then said to just keep them and sent me my brake pads. I wasn't in any hurry and they have been good to me. Maybe its just me, but I like supporting our supporting vendors.

In over 10 years, I've never once had issue with rockauto, I know they can't get it right all the time. But I've never gotten parts other than what I ordered, and have saved a shit load of money over getting from work, or parts stores even with a business account. I have business accounts with Advance Auto and O'Reillys. Get a pretty sizable discount from advance with my account since they are the primary I order from for customer's cars.

I've only been screwed by rockauto on dsm parts

I received used stock spark plug wires
I received mis matched belts

It's hit or miss with the dsm parts, other cars I've never had problems. But dsm parts I get screwed half the time
Thats because of all of the Douchebag Dsm guys scamming. They buy a belt and then return it but its not the belt that they paid for, its some other belt and they get the money back and keep the good part. Keep in mind that Rock Auto drop ships from parts stores or parts store suppliers, maybe even Vatozone or Oreilly or Advance Auto supply houses, so when those stores return some part that was special ordered that they dont stock and its the wrong part in the box, the guy at the counter has nothing to compare it to and has no idea you put the wrong part in the box, it then goes back and the warehouse just puts it on the shelf until its sold again.

I've had this happen like you with Dsm parts, but at the actual store where I ordered the part from, boxes were tampered with, contents either missing (took what they wanted and put some back) or just the plain wrong part.

Lol I don't disagree with your rationale

I enjoy the large selection and variety of manufacturers. One great thing is that they will price match products from other online retailers. I especially love this because Rock Auto has pretty good customer service in my experience. The other benefit to this is that I will trust Rock Auto more than some obscure retailer I have never dealt with so I know what I will be getting with a price match from Rock Auto. I also know that Rock Auto is pretty accurate with stock vs. the obscure companies who send you an email refunding your purchase because the item on the site was list as "in stock". My biggest beef with Rock Auto is the shipping game. Trying to play around with can be frustrating when the shipping can sometimes cancel out the savings on the parts. Overall, I feel they are a great resource and do have fantastic buys when you get the clearance email for your car. I just received a large box of parts from getting such an email.

I have had two items that were missing parts in the package in the past. I called customer service and they not only shipped out a replacement part, but they just let me keep what I already had instead of shipping it back.

They are a great resource. I agree with the shipping game, thats a tough pill to swallow sometimes and has stopped me from hitting "place order" more than once, but I dont know that theres anything that can be done about it, I think we are used to "free shipping" on Ebay where they actually just hide the shipping cost in the part.

I just opened the spark plug wires I ordered from Rock Auto.. used wires inside :f-u:.

I will say though, the return process was EXTREMELY easy to go through and a replacement is being shipped:thumb:. First experience with them and so far, I'm highly satisfied.

Especially when the cost of shipping far exceeds the cost of the one part out of the six coming from another warehouse.

Sometimes it is a pain to get everything to come from one warehouse, but its usually worth it when possible to save some $$ and get your parts at the same time.

They have a feature on their site that allows you to check off all the applicable parts and it will choose the best parts to minimize cost with shipping. I've use RockAuto a fair bit, and they've been excellent for me so far.

Rock Auto drop ships from parts stores or parts store suppliers, maybe even Vatozone or Oreilly or Advance Auto supply houses...

This is probably key to understanding the problem and key to understanding how you get wrong parts, although it doesn't explain how once you've gotten wrong parts Rockhead either argues about it or, in the case of a simple return request for a 1G part they sold as a 2G part, makes it your fault.

An industry OEM I spoke with about Rock substituting parts told me they resell parts from elsewhere. Apparently they don't stock, they just broker the sale, meaning what you get depends on the physical supplier, a third party. Specifically order a part from a specific, known, branded OEM but get an offshore no-brand copy? Good luck.

Order a 2g gasket they advertise in a 2g section for a 2g model and get a 1g part? Forget all that: If the photo is a 1g part it's on you. Their mistake is your mistake because you shouldn't have trusted their listing.

Who needs it. I specify OEM parts or known, verified aftermarket parts of at least OEM quality that I know I'll actually get. No more Rock Auto.
