Got everything back from the machinest on Friday. Headed to the house early on Saturday morning. Mic'd everything and got the rotating assembly assembled. Going back to the house tomorrow to clean the head out and put that on. Hustling.

Got the head on last night. Took all the plugs out, gunked, hosed brake cleaned and blew out everything in the head till nothing but clean air was coming out of everywhere. Bled out the lifters. Can't believe how much junk came out of them. So I bled them, cleaned them out with some brake cleaner and have them soaking in oil for when I go back on Friday to finish installing the cams and installing the new front cover and timing belt. Going to try really hard to get the motor in the car this weekend. I also brought my tstat housing to work today and cleaned it up. Capped off all the ports that I'm not using anymore. Waiting on my new Auto Meter water temp gauge so I can put the sender in. It's looking less and less like we'll make Summit Point next month, but we're still gonna try our best.

Got the motor fired up on Sunday. Ran it for a while. Oil temp and pressure was perfect. Water temp was perfect. After about a half hour of running and checking for leaks, I decided to pull the filter off and check it out. I have the Magnus oil filter so checking on things is a breeze. Pulled the filter apart. Metal. Freaked out. Primed the filter. Put it back on. Ran the car. More metal. Drained the oil, nothing on the drain plug magnet. Cleaned the filter. Ran it. More metal. Strangley enough, there was also what looked like red paint chips. So, my current theory is, the oil cooler still has junk in it, even though I washed it, blew it out, washed it, blew it out again. The red paint chips I believe are from the parts washer at work. Luckily (hopefully) for me, the oil that leaves the pump goes through the cooler first and then the filter. So whatever junk is coming from the cooler is getting caught up by the filter doing it's job. I bought a new cooler, gonna install that when we get back from vacation next week. Also gonna make up new cooler lines to be safe. The car was running absolutely perfect, with everything reading exactly where it all should be. I even redid the TBelt with the factory tensioner and new pulleys. Got rid of the solid tensioner. I don't make enough power to warrant the solid one. Hopefully everything is ok and when I put the new cooler in, the metal in the filter goes away. Crossing my fingers, toes, eyes, T's....everything.

In other news: my wife's pregnant! 21 weeks at the time of this writing. Gonna have a little boy in October. Super excited/terrified. We just had the anatomy scan down earlier this week and everything looks perfect. Very happy.

So, not so much an update on the car, but something I felt inclined to share since we all share the same passion.

I did it. I did 4 laps around the Nurburgring.

I went through a company called RSRNurburg. I rented a Ford Fiesta ST. People asked me why not a Porsche or something more power full. Very simple. I wanted to survive LOL.

I showed up at the track about an hour early so I could prepare myself and go through the safety course they provide. I obviously have some track time, so I know something about turning laps. A couple things different procedurally. Absolutely NO passing on the right. Took me a second to grasp that on track. Cause I was getting passed. A LOT! LOL. The locals there are INSANELY fast. But I'll get to that. After the safety class, I pretty much got in the car and went.

When I got down to the actual track, they had a do not enter sign up cause there was a pretty substantial wreck. Closed the track for about a half hour. Then it was time to go. I brought my helmet, head sock and gloves cause I knew I'd feel comfortable with that stuff.

Getting on track is simple. RSRNurburg gave me this little card and when you pull up to the gates, you just tap it and off you go!! It let's you out on the back straight at the top of the hill heading for the bridge for those of you that are familiar with the track. I was giggling like a child the whole first lap really. Took about that long to get used to the car and constantly looking in the mirrors.
I knew I wasn't there to break any track records or be a hero, I just wanted to experience it .

As most of us have done, I've played Gran Turismo most of my adult life. So I've done Nurburgring a ton of times. Probably turned a couple hundred laps there in GT. And the game did help with the layout. What corners came next. Really just what to expect around blind corners. But NOTHING prepares you for the elevation changes. It's INSANE!! You're coming g into downhill corners and carrying SO much speed, in a fiesta ST on stock tires it definitely keeps the adrenaline pumping for sure.

You have to constantly be looking in the mirrors. The local folks in their street cars are so fast. And then you get locals in PREPPED cars and it's not even funny. I looked in my mirrors exiting a corner, no one. Legit, I exit the next corner and all I see in my mirror is a BMW emblem with the high beams on LOL. I put the right turn signal on and stayed as far right as I could. I wound up leading a train of cars near the end of my last lap which was just incredible feeling. So awesome. If you EVER have the chance to do it, DO IT! And make sure to do more than one lap. It takes that long to learn the car and etiquette.

While on track, I saw the aftermath of three different wrecks. Pretty scary stuff. Definitely kept me in check. The track can DEFINITELY bite you if you don't respect it.

I'll have GoPro footage going up when we get back stateside.

Wow. Spa?! I wanna go there next so bad. Yeah man. Should've gone!! But you can make it happen. It's really easy to setup your rental and to go. It was such a blast. I didn't get up on two wheels, but I watched the GoPro, and you can definitely see me getting loose in a couple places and that was intense!!

Another thing we did today. We're visiting my family in Marsielle, so my wife and I borrowed my cousin's car and drove to Monaco. I did two laps around the course (used the curbs in a couple spots LOL) and got out to pay my respect to the history and to Daniel Riciardo winning a couple weeks ago. Such a great trip.

Well, we got back from Europe last night. Went over to the garage today, changed over the oil cooler, changed the oil and ran the car for a bit. Pulled the filter apart, no metal! So you know what that means? Going racing this weekend! Gonna spend all week getting the car ready to go/tying up some loose ends. Gotta make a new gauge panel for the water temp and wideband gauges, gonna take the car up and down the neighborhood for a couple pulls. Then pull the filter apart just to make sure things are good. Then loading the car up Thursday and heading to summit point Friday night withy buddy. Should be a blast.
