I work at an auto upholstery shop in cali. We do complete upholstery and window tint. Its impossible to fix a headliner; it hasta be completely reglued with new material. We charged anywhere from 60-120 to do a car. 60 was for a geo and the 120 was for a caddy. Hope that helps... peace~

ive seen fiberglass headliners...coolest thing dude...but hats too diffucult ad it cst a bit of $$$, i just got a new one at the junkyard for for 15 bux...

I've replaced three so far. You can buy the foam backed headliner material at a fabric store and I got the color to match almost exactly. Remove the overhead lights etc. and molding around headliner. Remove the headliner and sagging material together otherwise the dried out foam backing will be everywhere. Rip off the material. Be careful, the stiff backing it's glued to is styrofoam or something and damages easily. Take a stiff brush and brush off remaining foam rubber from backer. They sell 3m headliner adhesive at Napa, etc. I suggest you don't use any other prodduct but this. I am speaking from experience. Follow directions on can and apply to both the headliner material and the backer board. Apply headliner material carefully to avoid wrinkles. After it's on, cut out material where openings are and rivets go with a sharp razor. Now replace the whole board/headliner and attach lighting, trim, etc. Voila.

I just finished redoing my interior in my 97 and for the headliner material I purchased 1.5 yards from jo Ann’s it sells for 14.99 yard and if you download there app they have coupons I was able to use a 60% off one then purchased a can of headliner glue (can’t remember the brand but the can is orange for me it works better than the 3m brand) I had to remove the a arms sun visors all rear seat panels seat belts and rear headliner trim piece so as to not bend or break the foam board headliner was not hard at all I would suggest not spraying the entire board at once if a wrinkle gets in it you can’t push it out or anything I had to go back side cut the headliner board piece out from behind the wrinkle so the material could relax I know this was lengthy but I hope it helps

Was it really necessary to reply to a 15 year old thread? L O L

Thanks for the info. 15yrs old or not, my headliner is now showing its age & this is somethiing I need to add to my ToDo list. I think the added info is on topic & will be helpful for me & others with the add material source (Joann's Fabric & all).

Depending on the material you choose and the contact cement. Maybe 30 bux, it's not hard, hell taking it down and putting it back up is harder than redoing it.

95% prep, 5% finish product.
Like so much of the things these cars want and need.

Some good info on this thread. I am debating on fiberglassing but I’m fairly new at it. For now I’ll probably go to joanns and buy some cheap fabric and make it at least look presentable
