Hey guys so im at the point where im attempting to install my auto trans. Ive got as far as getting the trans in the pilot bearing but for the life of me i cant get the trans on the dowels.... its very very tight. When I put bolts in it just doesnt wanna seat. Almost like theirs an obstruction.

I have the pilot bearing installed with the lip facing outwards towards thr trans

From the picture looks to be seated. It should have pushed in like 3 times before completely seating. It took me an hour to get the right angle for the trans to seat perfectly. Take your time i used a trans jack and a regular jack under the motor With a 2x4 to pivot it. Think outside the box and you’ll get it.
 
Guys the convertor is in as far as it will go. Before i left i dropped the tranny off the jack and it landed on the concrete. Thankffully i didnt crack anything. Just for clarification again the pilot bearing sits in the crank with the groove facing outward, the crankbolts were torqued to 101 ft lbs and filled the tc with oil before mounting it . Im stuck at work for a few days so im gunna f***ing stew thinking about it
 
I've found it beneficial to make use of an old barrel strap & a cherry picker to pull the trans up from the floor. This allows me to twist the trans backwards, towards the firewall roughly 15-20* to get both dowels to line up easier. There's a small straight edge on the lower, front of the w4a33 trans housing that I've used to pull up on, helping with this clocking motion... it's just to the right of the pan & doesn't seem to serve any other purpose, from what I can tell.

Also, you might have to rotate & "bounce" the TC on the AT spines, in order to get all of the splines to line up. From the look of your pic, it doesn't seem as recessed as my old IPT TC setup was

I use a lift and a jack. I bolt a chain to bottom half of the trans mount. Slide the tranny through the bottom and pull it up ffrom the top. Then take a jack and use it to pivot it up down left or right. I get the tranny seated get the bolts in but it wont pull jnto the dowels. Im starting to think my convertor isnt seated properly. Im gunna drive home in the am and tackle it....its driving me nutss
 
If you force it at all it can break the trans pump. Another thing I’ve had happen was dowels in the block and trans. They butt up and stop the trans from stabbing in.
 
Yes, what I’m saying is that sometimes they get stuck in the trans instead of the block.
So guys tranny is on, now ive run into another problem. The tranny mount is to low...... the manual one bolts in if i lower the tranny. Im using the correct rear and front mount

I hate it when I have stuff I want to work on at home and I'm stuck at work thinking about it all day.

You have to use mounts from an automatic. I think it's the rear and front mounts that are different..... probably the trans mount too. The mounts that go to the motor on an auto car are different than the ones that go to a manual.
 
I am using the the auto rear and front auto mount. The driver side mount is manual. This is the tranmission mount im using

Stock brackets on the motor the rear chassis is a manual with poly insert the timing belt side is my old manual with a poly insert the trans is stock bracket and mount. The front roll stop is auto bracket with a bsfab front crossmember that I cut off the solid mount and welded my poly mount to it.
