WHY are 1G's better than 2G's????

2g sound system is better. 2g stock wheels are better looking, 2gb spoilers are better looking, and you don't feel like you are going to die if anything touches you in a 2g.

I did feel safer in my 2g

They are lighter
the rear diff is supported better and can be made more rigid for cheaper than a 2G
transmission swap is easier in a 1G since there are less chassis mounts on the trans
no need for a 6-bolt swap since it's already there

Hmm I think this is a battle of the generations. The younger crowd on this forum (including me) for the most part, like the 2g while the older crowd like 1g. In terms of design that is. The 1g is growing on me definitely. But, I just love the look of the 2g. Mechanically, I fall in love with the engine bay of 1gs. All that spacceee :sneaky:

there are more 2g 420a base cars around then 1g N/t cars... or at least the few 1g dsms I see the majority of the time are the turbo models. I do like both cars but the 2g is vary heavy compared to the 1g dsms, also I think the retro styling of the 1g is kinda cool, it's sort of a left overs from the 80s look/feel especially the "90-"91 pop-up light models, the 2g cars can never be mentioned without the fast and the furious being referenced, in some manor or form LOL, but I did like the 2gb eclipse, otherwise I hate the 2ga Eclipse/Talon they just look like a sad clown LOL, but I would not pass on an awd one, if I could get it at a fair cost, because you can always put the later style bumper cover on it I suppose.

1g was built to make a name, they had to go over and beyond the limits to get into the market with a bang. So they made it good. All that said, they also made it for that era and with the technology and styling of said era.

Personally (I've owned a 92 laser awd/99 eclipse gsx and 95 eagle talon tsi awd) I like the styling of the 2gs better. Its curves are sexy and the look is timeless (still looks good and sporty now); looks are a personal taste of course. I find the 1gs too wedge like but both are very aerodynamic nonetheless. 0.29 coefficient of friction for the 2g, I forget the 1g.

Same goes for interior. Personally I like the 2g better. I feel more at home (minus the huge bus steering wheel). But I've heard 1gs feel more comfortable for taller people, being short, I can't testify on that :p. The pop-ups were great, love pop ups. If 1gs came here with that rare german t-top or japanese gullwing doors :D but those are rare.

2g was built for the people which means it also came with better sound proofing (way better for a daily) and more of a daily friendly attitude yet they kept the design sporty (which definitely can't be said for later 3g and 4g)

One thing I will give 1gs is that they don't rust as easily (strut towers come to mind). Love my frameless windows on the 2g, although doors are quite heavy.

Each has things the other doesn't. Most likely due to budget and commitees. In the end it's a personal choice. One thing is for sure though, every girl I've ever come across always love my 2gs. 1gs on the other hand....not so much.

Thats odd I recall reading somewhere that the 1g dsms were 0.29 coefficient of drag and the 2gs were 0.30 I could be wrong but this is just me going off of memory.

90-94 with a spoiler is .29, which is the same for a GST/X 95-99, the 00-04 was .35, Lancers are .30 a Mirage hatch is .27...

I agree with an above poster that the younger generation typically goes for the 2gs, leaving the 1gs for the older car guys. For reasons I won't ever bring up on this forum, in high school, every kid I knew wanted a 2G Eclipse. Actually, most the people I grew up with have no clue what the hell a 1G DSM even is. Sad but true.

That isn't the reason I ended up with 2 2G DSMs. The 2G body style is actually just one of my favorites. Add in turbo and AWD and I was sold on them.

When people ask me what car I'm building (people at work or relatives etc), I just say it's an older version of the eclipse because nobody knows what the hell a 93 talon is.

I feel you Vegas I have a laser and talon when most people see it unless they had a dsm go what's that... I just say basicly the first get eclipse. I had one guy say the one in fast a furious? I looked at him and just shook my head... it all boils down to opinion.

The 2G is a stripper car, so depending on your point of view that either makes it the clear winner or the reason you had to spend your memorial day weekend in 2006 getting penicillin shots in unpleasant places :ohdamn:

I think you may have FINALLY hit the nail on the head with that synopsis, 2G's are for girls(strippers) and 1G's are for MEN.. ;) LOL

^^ This is explains a lot. Now I finally understand why girls would always compliment my car when I first started college and try talking to me ;)

Ah well, I'll take that over a bunch of guys trying to compliment it :p
