Hey everyone!

What ever happened to these epic cars? Sure they were overpriced at the time, but I feel I rarely meet another 3000GT Spyder owner out there.

Anyone else a fan of the 3KGT platform? Anyone have some cool stories about these cars when they were new "back in the day"?

Mitsubishi 3000GT Spyder Production Numbers (Nagoya, Japan Plant: 1,618)
ASC Rancho Dominguez assembly plant: Only 1,034 were completed and offered for sale.
Remaining 584 are assumed to have been dismantled for parts.

Wow! very cool to learn this white on gray spyders is one of 49 examples. I hope these continue to appreciate as I feel they are currently under-rated and live in the shadows of the hyped Supra and Skylines. While those others are great cars, I feel the 3KGT platform had the performance to match along with the great grand touring capability and luxury.

Start saving!! Say it is an "investment" haha

Other than super rare, they were ridiculously overpriced and overweight. Because of being a convertible they were significantly heavier than a standard tank VR4, and most performance oriented folks spending that kind of cash went for the standard VR4.

They are quite rare, and I have only seen a handful of VR4 Spyders in the last 19 years.

Ive only ever seen 2 in person. One was when I worked at a dealership ~12 years ago, and the other was broken down on the side of the interstate with some 20" chrome wheels about a month ago. Both were vr4 models.
And I second that the reason they were unpopular is because of their weight. In coupe form, they were almost 4000 lbs, so making a hard-top convertible probably wasn't the best decision.

That being said, I would love to have that 1/1 yellow on grey car.

Very true about the weight. Before I bought the car I thought this thing would drive like a tank on wheels. However, when I got behind the wheel you really can feel the AWS give the car a "lighter" feel to it. And because of the pumps and motors in the back for the hardtop, the car has a closer 50/50 weight distribution than the regular VR4 coupe. The additional weight makes the car feel planted, however, I wouldn't consider a full blown "high performance" car...more like a killer Grand Touring machine! Nothing cooler than hearing the turbos spool up with the wind in your hair.

If anyone is interested I made a quick video driving it around town. Cheers!
