So how much do you expect your 1G to appreciate? These aren't vintage Ferrari's, they will never be worth more than around $15k! As such, I would enjoy it! If you really must, keep the stock parts and revert it back to stock...

They will top out around 20k in my opinion. I would put the value of mine at roughly 6-7k as it sits currently. I am only 35 years old, so I have no problem having this be a garage queen for the next 30 years. I will only put about 500 miles a year on it and take it to a few local car shows. The automotive market has already begun it's transition to electric. Once that is complete the value will rise even more.

The DSM has nostalgia, at least for my generation. That's what you guys don't understand. There are always people who want to buy their favorite cars from their childhood. It's no different than my father dropping 25k on a Chevelle SS last year. There were tons of Chevelles produced, nothing special about them, it's just a car from his generation. With the DSM, production numbers are quite small, especially for turbo AWD. The more you guys destroy yours to mod them to hell and back, the higher the value of mine increases. It's not even about an investment for me, that's just an added bonus of owning the vehicle, if and when I decide to sell it. For me, it's about owning a car that I've always wanted and owning a piece of automotive history that isn't a rusty, hacked up, pile of crap. Turn key with A/C and the stereo equalizer switches, what a day to be alive.

OK... I'll play this game, take that $7k and invest it, how much will you have in 30 years? (roughly $75000-$80000, using 7-8% return, which is average for stocks)

Cars are lousy investments! VERY few, collector cars, appreciate, but DSM is not one of them... Then, you have to pay for storage and upkeep! Plus no one will be nostalgic about a STOCK DSM! And I actually had a stock 90GSX in college, 1991-1993!

Just go and enjoy your car!

Again, it's not an investment(That's just added bonus), it's more of a fully functioning time capsule. I am enjoying it, I expect my 1st car show trophy this year. If nobody cared about stock DSM's then they wouldn't sell for more money than a fully modified DSM.

There is a reason my garage is a 2 car garage....for 2 DSM's of course. 1 stock and 1 modded. ;)

This is not true at all, I picked up my 24k original mile Laser 6/4 ("rarest" of the DSM's) for way less than 6k and good modified examples (e.g GOOD builds with GOOD parts) go for 8-10k on the regular.. There is nothing nostalgic or classic about a DSM, I am not bashing our cars at all, just being a realist..

If there are ANY of these DSM's that might become collectable it would be a stock 99 GSX with low low miles..

I don't agree with that at all. The DSM platform has a huge following and for good reason. It doesn't matter what you or I paid, it matters what the next person is going to pay and bone stock dsms consistently bring in high dollar amounts with EASE. It's quite hard to sell a fully modified car, even if it is done properly with good aftermarket parts. That's why most people part out their modified car before selling it as a whole package.

Nostalgia for me is remembering when I was 8 years old and going to the Chrysler dealership near my house in 1990 and seeing the 1G Talons, and later the 2G Talons. Nostalgia is sitting in the 1G and being amazed with the fighter pilot cockpit setup, the pop up headlights, and the smell of oil. You are underestimating how amazing these cars were for their time period, and people like me are more than willing to drop 15-20k on a clean DSM a few decades from now when all we have is A.I. controlled mass transit vehicles.

Do you have some pics of your Laser? I would like to see it!

Eh, 30 years from now gasoline may not even be a relevant fuel source. Imagine if they came out with a self driving self charging electric car that required zero maintenance and would drop you off and pick you up any time you ordered it.

Your grand kids could grow up not ever knowing how to drive a car, let alone get a driver's license.

They may indeed have residual value, however they have not shown any gains at all. They have become less of a tuner car and more of a cheap car. Try joining any dsm Facebook group these days

That was my point on the electric cars, that ALL gasoline cars which have a good following will increase in value dramatically at that point in time. It's not a matter of if they switch to electric, it's a matter of when. Europe has already got the ball rolling with it's plan to phase out gasoline/diesel cars in the next decade.

At the end of the day, we are all here to enjoy DSM's and that's all that matters. We obviously own these cars for a reason, they are awesome to custom build, whether it's 200whp or 1000whp.

Love my highly modified DSM and my stock auto 6/4 car, but here is the real nostalgia..........all original, #'s matching but I put the wheels on her. I still have the wire wheel hubcaps and flat hood. No number would take her away from me.
I get dozens of rubberneckers every time I drive it thru my town of 9000.
I rebuilt it, did all the work on it, tune it and feel FANTASTIC about that.
My DSM's don't ever get the time of day, and that's cool with me since it will smoke the crap out of everything I see. I don't ever see a DSM getting a neck breaking look from being a stock car but that's just my 02.

PS....100k WOULD get me to part with her!!!!

Ok, continue on. I just couldn't resist the urge to post my "baby".

They sell for money because you are buying a car someone else f***ed up. I'd have paid 4-5k for a nice stock gst, but I got tired of waiting and bought a lightly modded one, and I've regretted it every day since then.

Sure do, as it is now slightly "modified" with 29k, and as I bought her "stock" at 24k..

That is most beautiful Laser I've ever seen. The sleek spoiler really looks better than the spoilers of the Eclipse and Talon.
