I recived this nice looking 02 housing but I noticed the bung for the 02 sensor has no threads. Maybe its intended for dsm or aem sensors, this way I can just tap the threads I need for whatever sensor Im running?

Or do I need a threaded insert to weld in?

I am assuming I cant just tap in the threads... should be m18x1.5 I belive.

Can some one please clarify if I can just tap the threads or need to add a insert? Thanks!

Heres a picture.

Yes... I can only figure it came untapped for the purpose of installing OEM style sensor or an AEM style.

I dont see any other reason.

After visting 4 different stores I was able to find this m18x1.5 tap. Hope its strong enought to cut into that metal.

I drop my 98 gsx off at English Racing first thing in the AM. They will be instaling and tuning a full fpgreen setup for me. Im trying to make sure I have all parts and they are ready to go. So after checking everything, I noticed the 02 housing bung has no threads... I have never seen that before, thought I would check the forums.

You may even have to take it to a machine shop. I tapped SS a few times and it's really hard on the tap if it isn't high quality. I destroyed one tap. Make sure to use oil for lubrication so that blades don't weaken or get too hot.

That is probably a mess up on their part. I have the same 02 housing except the 2 bolt Tial design. When I received mine the holes did not even come close to lining up. Extreme PSI then told me all the ones that they have in stock were the same way.

Better yet when I sent the 02 housing back to JMFab, they literally just cut the middle of the pipe going to the wastegate and welded it back together. I needed my car running for the shootout and didn't have time to complain and make them make me a whole new piece.

For what I paid for that thing (which was way too much) I expected better service from them. Apparently their quality control sucks too. I would be sending that back to them if I were you.

Thats to bad. Im in the same boat, I need thia part by tomorrow... ER is instailling and tuning the car. I cant send it back, I did check the holes, everything else seems to line up.

The funny thing is, where do you even get a bung without threads... its much harder to find threadless bungs. They should just buy 25 02 sensor bungs at a time for 20 bucks, then weld them in. They had to go out of their way to find threadless bungs, so thats strange if it was a mess up.

Or maybe they did mess up and actually bought threadsless bungs...LOL that would be my luck :)

The 02 bung itself has a little extra metal build up on the inside, seems its ment to be tapped... I hope.

I'm sure they are tapping the bung themselves to save on money. Which it appears they forgot to do. Mine came tapped. There is no way they expected you to do it. The part that sucks is if you tap it, and it doesn't work, they may not fix it for you. Then you are out a couple hundred dollars.
