Long story short, I picked this up as a full engine for a couple hundred and I didn't notice the writing until I started pulling the old engine.

I would at least pull the pan and inspect it, but that picture alone looks in rough shape but impossible to know for sure

Yes, I would pull it down and inspect every millimeter of that thing and at the very least plan to replace every gasket and seal.
