2G How would I dye the carpets and vinyl dash/doors black?

Well it would be much easier to find a 99 special edition that had black interior and swap it because dyeing stuff usually winds up wearing away or flaking off over time.

You can get brand new carpet for like 200 bucks shipped, just fyi. This is where I got mine: http://www.stockinteriors.com/. It is decent quality stuff - not the greatest, but not the worst either. I'd say it's about on-par with the OE carpet. In any case, it will look wayyyy better than trying to dye it yourself.

My car was done with the vynil die/paint from adanced auto. (And color match paint for plastics)

Check out my profile for picts. My entire interior was grey orginally

This also includes rear seats, headliner, sun shade, visors, carpet, trim moldings, center console, dash panels (I will do the dash when I have my cage installed)

I'm going for a full black interior based on some of the pictures I've seen it looks amazing so how would I dye it or would it be easier to paint it?

Yes, finding the parts already in black is an easier method, these days actually finding the parts, let alone for cheap, is getting harder to do. As it's been addressed, good preparation is key to making paint or dye look good and last for a while. Here are some links here on Tuners that'll hopefully help you out.

I can attest, the rit dye method works. I dyed my carpets with Rit Dye for around 8-10 hours, rinsed them off, let them dry, then touched up some areas with black fabric paint from the auto parts store and almost 2 months later they still look great.

I am converting my interior from tan to black right now as well. I painted the carpet with rustoleum vinyl paint from walmart. And using flat black regular rustoleum for the interior pieces. Everything is coming out great. I am using multiple light coats and then letting each piece sit in the sun to bake on.

The LKQ junkyard just had a 40% off sale and I found a bunch of usefull parts for the conversion. For $170 I picked up OEM black door panels, 3G black cloth rear seats mint, 4G cloth front seats in mint condition, and a 3G steering wheel.

3G Eclipses are all over junkyards and their rear seats are direct bolt ons. The 4G front seats need custom fab work to make them fit but look awesome in my opinion.

Heres a pic of the carpet after I painted it and of the 4g seat installed. This method does make the carpet feel a bit stiffer than OEM, but not bad at all. I let the carpet sit in the sun for 5 hours after painting and it dried very well. Did 3 coats spraying in different directions. Very happy with the results

Hmm, I still have the carpet out of the car, I will add a couple coats.

I'd be very carful dying the carpet. Mine looked beautiful at first but over the years with sun exposure it turned blue. (And I had taken my time and done it right, it wasn't a rush job) I just recently swapped back to factory grey carpet and am much happier. I would recommend buying new black carpet vs dying what you have.

SEM make some killer interior paint. i used it on a mustang, changed the tan interior to black. it matched the original black perfect and if prepped right it bonds and won't flake off.

I wish i would have known about SEM when i painted my interior.
i think i used krylon fusion for the black and either krylon fusion or plasti-kote for the blue.

for the headliner and carpet i used some dye in a spray can that i got from autozone. It didn't do a very good job.

I need to redo my headliner anyway so I'll do it in black fabric. But when they say paint your carpet. Do they mean....like actual paint?
