So I had a little bit of cash to get a new car after taxes and talked to my mechanic about wanting to learn to work on cars in general and he recommended a 4g63 as a good starter engine to learn to work on. He warned me about their quirks and we started looking around for my new car and found a 1992 gsx and other than having the turbo swapped for an evo3 16g it was completely unmolested with only 114k original miles! I plan on taking it to the end of upgrade stage 1, and have so far ordered a new gasket kit to rebuild my motor, new alternator, water pump, power steering pump (used, planning on deleting PS after my wife learns to drive a stick), everything for a basic tune up (plugs, wires, fluids, etc...), a FP manifold, 3" downpipe, a dump pipe with turbo elbow, and some pipe to bend for a side dump. Also planing on ordering a duralast clutch, act flywheel, k&n high flow air filter and probably a FP intake pipe. After that I am debating weather I should save up for esmlink or to get it repainted oem red and then wrap it for protection.

Motor rebuild? If it's healthy leave it alone. Basically if it aint broke dont fix it.

It's run less than 50 miles in the past 10 years, it runs but not well, exhaust is clogged so turbo won't spool and lots of gaskets leaking so we are replacing all of the gaskets in the block, not touching the head unless we need to. But after sitting that long I want to replace anything made out of rubber in the engine bay to prevent problems in the future, I don't want to cheap out or cut corners I want to get another 1g on the road!

If you don't want to cheap out or cut corners. Every thing looks good to me for starters, but I wouldn't get a AutoZone duralast clutch. For what you are doing I would get a south bend stg 1, one step above oem. I think it would do well for you and for the price you can' beat it. I personally would be afraid to use the duralast. Admittedly the first time I went to replace a clutch in my 1g in 2010 I went with the duralast from AutoZone, and the measurements were off. I was a total noob then and was just starting to learn. I still feel like a noob compared to most people on here now. But congrats oon the car it shall treat you right. As long as you treat it right. I do like the route you are going for just starting out as well.

I was planning on starting with a duralast because I expect it to be ground to dust within 2 months because I am going to be teaching my wife to drive a stick in it, then I will probably get a performance clutch too, after she dusts the 1st one

Also forgot to mention my mechanic who is teaching me has a manual boost controller and a better boost gauge for me too, but I didn't pay for them so I forgot about them

Sounds like you have some sweet/tasteful mods in store. I'd go paint and suspension. Give yourself a good base to start modding the car.

Wasn't mentioned yet but I'd also replace your timing belt while your at it including .

Hydrolyic Tensioner ,tensioner pully ,balanced shaft belt ,Balance shaft tensioner pully, idler pully .

Completely understandable, I didn't even think about that when I read it LOL. My wife wants to learn how to drive stick as well in the talon when I get it up and running again. I told her she can learn in the honda i don't drive anymore due to being hit but still driveable just so she can learn and it won't matter if she destroys the clutch. But even then I won' let her drive the talon LOL.
