Wow man! Love taking the next step!

Do you mind me asking why you didn’t remove the floor all together and replace with something lighter?

Thanks!

Cutting the floor out would have been a little bit more scope than I want to take on and it's a little intimidating too!

I like rocker bar bend over the tunnel, nice and tight. Did DSS ever finish that two piece carbon fiber drive shaft for you? I was trying to keep up on your progress after not having success with that one piece drive shaft.

Thanks! Yep, I have the two piece driveshaft in and it fixed all my harmonic issues.

Update on the build:
The cage is done! I'll be getting it certified next month. It's been an awesome project. The seat mount and belts are done too.

I also removed a little more than 10 more pounds of metal from the front driveshaft carrier bearing mount and supporting structure from driveshaft tunnel. This sucked to remove, i was drilling spotwelds for 3 to 4 hours! It was well worth that time for that much of a weight reduction. I'll need to get this thing on corner scales to see what it comes out at.

To remove the driveshaft support structure I had to cut out emergency brake cable bulkhead from the floor. I got to use my bead roller and made a patch panel, and plug weld at all the areas where I accidentally drilled through while removing the spot welds. I also stitch welded back in the floor section I cut for the tube that intersects it.

I cut the roof off! The cage is welded and I'm awaiting certification.

I also received my carbon/Kevlar parts!

Roof test fit.

2g dash is awesome! Took a lot of cutting to get it fit. The 2g dash is about 6" thicker!

MAPerformance is building my motor, I'm going to a 2.0 long rod setup, and to a copper head gasket with orings this time around.

I'm getting excited for the new season!

Now for some paint work on the interior, after the cage inspection/cert.

Hey a fellow Minnesotan! Great build man, will it be out this year? If I ever decide to make the lead a put a cage in, I'm coming to you! Great work on that cage, I like how snug you made it.

Is that the carbonetics dash?

Can you give us a review?

I'm debating on getting that with their door panels when I do my cage.

Yep it's carbonetics. Dash is beautiful. Its their carbon /kevlar material. I needed to do a lot of trimming to make the 2g dash work in a 1g car. I'm impressed with the quality and finish. It's like having a show car that i race!

Thanks! Yes the car will be ready for this season. I'll keep this thread updated on the build.

Great work as always Mark! Looking like it's coming together well!! Love the dash swap and the recent chassis mods!

How long did it take to get stuff from carbonetics

Thanks guys!

The fabrication thing is just a hobby. If my career was challenged I know there would be a backup way to make ends meet. The chassis inspector liked my work, he told me I should go in business for myself.

Carbonetics took a while, but it was a large order. I placed it at the end of July, received it all on Jan. I was not in a huge rush and planned ahead. The product he makes is crazy nice.

Getting much further along, the floor is painted, the cage is primed ready for paint. I decided to paint the cage body color and leave the floor black. I'm going to paint the rest of the interior body color. The cage was certified too, legal to 7.5 seconds now!

Wiseco is sponsoring my new MAPerformance engine build by supplying buck wild custom HD pistons/rings/wigged out TP1 coated pins!

Also, I just finished painting the interior and cage. Super pumped how it turned out! I used paint code mixed cans and 2 part 2k clear coat in a can. Very easy to get great results! I also used carbon tube protectors to protect the paint.

Looking forward to a great season!

Little teaser of the project. It's coming along nicely! The interior is complete now! I need to repaint the side mirror deletes, work on some side trim, and determine if I'm going to cut out an intercooler opening. It's going to be an awesome day when I get it all wrapped up! This was the largest winter project I've taken on.

First off, thanks guys! This is going to be a building year for me, with so many changes.

The new chassis work is almost done. I had a problem with trim with the carbonetics fenders, the factory trim would not work. (Even with significant mods)

20180313_201509.jpg

I learned that I needed to use Eclipse rear trim to eliminate the the eagle talon side/rocker trim. So fast forward, I removed the trim and it uncovered a rust spot on the passenger side and a big dent on the drivers side. I patched in new steel on the passenger side. This sucked, and was a good for me to learn body work...i also patched the holes for the trim mounting locations.

What is crazy is this was all done with custom paint mixed and 2k clear cost aerosol cans!

I also cutout the intercooler opening, I was unwilling to keep the front end closed off after research on the benefit. I built air guides on the intercooler to match the bumper profile.

Super pumped to get this project wrapped up and get it down the track!

Had a good time this week with the dyno session and at the drag strip tuning before the Maperformance Proving Grounds the weekend of the 14th. Map's dyno was not reading my ignition, so unfortunately no published HP numbers. First pass off the trailer and ran very good for the new setup.

Glad to see some updates on this. Are you still running the tilton twin carbon? Still using the magnus launch control device? Was that spinning in first or clutch slip?

I'm still running a hydraulic launch aid and the tilton carbon carbon. Unfortunately my data log was corrupted, so I can't tell how much clutch slip and/or tire slip I had. The 60 foot was bad, I've been in the 1.3s! I was more than happy for the first hit on this setup!
