My brakes are squealing, sticking and rubbing. It's past that time. My gear has already seized up on me once about 6 years ago and rather than deal with all that rusty old junk I figured I'm better off just replacing the parts altogether.

I've been able to locate the following from a combination of MachV, eBay and RockAuto:
-2x front calipers oem replacement semi-loaded
-2x rear calipers oem replacement semi-loaded
-2x oem front rotors ($49)
-ebc redstuff front pads

The problem is now I'm spending a fortune on this. These items total up to roughly $480 shipped.

I still need rear pads (cheap is probably ideal for this), rear rotors, lube and brake fluid. Could be another 100 bucks.

This could easily skyrocket upwards of $600.00 and I don't think it's a very good idea to just drop huge cash on plain old replacement parts. Any suggestions?

EDIT: This thread has ran it's course. Unfortunately there is no "free-way" out and there aren't any other unbeknown to us , affordable brake upgrades besides the Cobra upgrade or the Outlander setup. But there's really no downside to that they're both great reasonably priced options. Outlander setup is the way to go. The parts have all arrived I just need to put them on!

Someone is confused here.
As far as AutoZone is concerned, the core charge is added to the price you see advertised if you do not have a core to exchange. The local price I see for one dual piston front caliper for a 95-99 GSX is $47.99 with a possibility to add a $35.00 core charge to that. We're at $95.98 for both sides with 2 good cores returned.

Add the dealer sourced Outlander brackets for at least $75 each side. Now it's $245.98.

ExtremePSI's site doesn't list Outlander rotors, so I'll go with the cheapest 2G AWDs which are powerslots at $190.00 for the front 2, and aren't right with these brackets. Now it's $435.98.

Add Hawk HPS front pads at $72.95. It's $508.93 and that's just the front.

If you got 4 slotted Eclipse rotors, then you're at least up to $677.93. I'd imagine that if you got the correct Outlander front rotors, they might cost a little more. AutoZone shows their 2006 Outlander front rotors at $97.99 each.

This is the exact Invoice from my order. I can send you a screenshot of my order too if you'd like a little more proof

Also, I should edit my post again. I only paid for the front two calipers making it under $600. My dad paid for the rear calipers because he broke the bleeder off each one so he bought me new ones. So for maybe a little over $600, you could have that setup.

+1 this is for outlander brake upgrades, i think he just bought completely stock brakes

also heres the outlander rotors i bought Centric and they come zinc coated
Centric Rotors - Best Prices, Reviews & Installation Videos on Centric Premium Brake Rotors

Those are the ones that I use and I love them. They appear to be very high quality and having them available for like $30ea. is pretty nice, too!

Mine still have the machining/cross-hatching marks in them still, like they were brand new.

I always heard road racers rants about how great they are, and unbeatable for the price so i figured i would go with them plus they look great

how many miles do you have on them and what pads did you go with?

I just got my brackets in from mitsu I only paid $48 each plus tax, i sent them off to a friend to powdercoat them to match my freshly rebuilt and powdercoated calipers.

I also ordered centric blanks and EBC green pads... also I cant find anywhere what pads to use, i thought i had read to use GSX pads but i cant seem to find it again is this correct? or do i need outlander pads?

Thanks
Adam

Hey man, I know it's been years, but could you shed some light on wether or not you were able to use the Outlander pads? I feel like they should work if the bracket was designed for them.. And they would be beneficial over GSX pads to make full use of the larger rotor.

The caliper itself (on a 2g GSX) is the same caliper the Outlander uses. Here is another thread on this topic:

http://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/05-06-outlander-bigger-brake-upgrade.428973/

To use this for a 1g, you would need different brake lines as the 2g/Outlander dual piston calipers use a banjo-style fitting. Brake lines such as these can be found here:
http://www.jnztuning.com/product_info.php?products_id=817&osCsid=fdfc0af700990b7ee91a1657cd86a1f9

I have these on my Laser as I have extra 2g/Outlander dual piston front calipers. Once you have the brake lines, you just use 2g/Outlander dual piston calipers with the Outlander brackets. Centric blanks are my suggestion for rotors.

Isn't it all dual pistons even 92-94?

The brackets can also be used for any 93-94 or GVR4 dual piston caliper to retain the 1g line fitment. I opted to use the 2g style on my 90 DSM as they are more readily available for me. I was under the impression Paintballaa5 was looking specifically for Outlander calipers.

Ah got it. Just the caliper bracket needs to be from an 05-early 06 outlander to make clearance for the larger rotor.

So long as you have dual piston calipers and the correct brake lines for the style of caliper used.

Hey thanks for sharing the info. I am aware of the difference between them and have sourced some 1gb dual piston calipers to use, for simplicity, so I don't have to change up the brake hoses. Was just curious which pads we were supposed to use with this "bigER" brake setup. Seems most are using the gsx pads, probably because of the better aftermarket pads out there like Hawk and EBC..

The pads are all the same for the mentioned dual piston calipers (530). Different part numbers would likely be due to different pad compounds. You could use the GSX pads on an Outlander if you so wish.

Check out this application chart for Carbotech:

http://carbotechperformance.com/pads.asp?Make=Mitsubishi

You will notice that the 93-94 GSX, 95-99 GSX, and Outlander all use the CT530 pad design. There are also many others that will work according to the chart. Looking at the chart makes me now wonder what other caliper choices there are as well.

That's a very helpful chart that I haven't seen. I couldn't say for certain if they work, but it seems the Diamante, and Montero Sport also used the same pad design. Interesting...

Thanks for your help though. :thumb: I was just wondering about the slight area of the rotor that is not being used by the pad (and if the outlander pads were slightly bigger to take advantage of it.). My Cobra also has the same thing. Maybe 1/4" of the inside of the rotor not being used by the pad.

Sorry if that doesn't make sense.. Hard to describe

Can anyone help me... I recently Purchased some Hawk Front Brake pads for my 99 GSX AWD.. I received them and they are too small... I called in they said they were the wrong part number for that those were for fwd not AWD... I have part number HB213 F.626 and I was wondering if anyone knew what the part number for the AWD is for HAWK Front Brake pads... I seen someone in this list say HB214F.618 was one they were using but when I went to purchase them eclipse wasn't an option for that part number.. Any Help would be appreciated.. again a 1999 GSX AWD Hawk Front Brake Pads Part Number.. I also thought the previous owner may have done the Outlander upgrade but they didn't so I am hoping its just a mix up for pads.. Thank you again..
