I was attempting to bleed my coolant (again) and my 1G has been running rough and I'm pretty sure it's because i need to adjust timing and bad fuel. But it started running rough and then died. I tried to start but the starter is doing nothing. I tried to jump the starter and it sparked once and didn't do it again. I pulled the ecu and check for power. I have power at 103 at all times. But no power at 110 when key is turned to start. I've checked relays, fuses, been in and out of every diagram and forum and can't find anything. I have good connections apart from the dead battery but my jump box has been working perfect. Anybody have any ideas? And would no power to the ecu cause the starter to not work? I don't even hear the fuel pump when I turn the key to start.

Charge your battery, if there is not enough voltage and amperage to allow everything to work you can have issues like this. I would even go as far as getting a new battery. I had to replace my battery because it wouldn't crank the engine fast enough to start like a year ago.

I hope that's all it is. Could be I'm just thinking too much because this is my first DSM and I'm used to 240s.

So I found the starter problem. It was a bad relay. Put power and ground and didn't click over. I was looking at the heater relay for some reason. I still need to figure out the no ecu power when turned to start.

I'll check it today. I'm starting to think something maybe happened to the ignition switch. Because I tried bypassing the starter relay and nothing still happened.

Recap and update. So turns out I've been testing the wrong ignition wire. The wire is supposed to be 110, but really it's on pin 106 for mine and 110 is a ground wire. So at 106 I have power when the key is on the on position, and I have a constant 12v at 103. Is there any other wire that I should look for for power when the key is on or turned to the start position? I also removed the MPI Relay and tested everything as my fuel pump never worked from when it died, I followed a post that Steve made. Everything checked out except for when I applied power to pin 9 and 6, and did not create continuity between 3 and 2 when it should have. I removed the starter relay and tested it every which way looking for it to click over and it didn't. I also attempted to by pass the relay by jumping pin 3 and 4 together (I honestly don't know if this is the right way or not) I then tried to crank the motor over with the key and nothing happened. Did I do the right way of attempting to by pass the relay? and if I did what could be causing the starter to not work? would a bad MPI relay or removing it cause the starter to not work? I know the starter being bad could be an option but I want to make sure of other things before that. There is also a constant 12v at pin 10 on the relay plug, and a 12v when the key is on. I don't remember what pin it was. And when the ECU is plugged in the MPI relay clicks when turned to on and clicks again after like 10 seconds when the key is off.

I did by pass the relay the correct way. I got power all the way out to the plug for the starter. I then took that starter out, hooked a jump box to it. And then I jumped it and the gear popped out perfectly (I don't know if it's supposed to spin when you do it but it didn't) I then hooked the starter to the factory harness. Connected power and ground. There is power going to the positive terminal on the starter. I tried the key, nothing, I tried to jump the starter with the harness hooked up and nothing even when I took the trigger plug off.

So I fixed the starter problem. Someone ripped apart the starter harness and decided that instead of putting the ground wire on the starter itself, they decided the put it on the bellhousing instead. I ended up taking pictures before I took the engine apart and put it back the way it was. I'm assuming that the bellhousing ground wasn't that great but it's a good thing I took it apart and put it how it should be. I was trying to start it hoping that that dumb ground location could have stopped everything from running. But the starter ended up just clicking a bunch so I'm charging the battery over night.

So after I Fixed the starter. It broke again LOL. It started clicking rapid like low battery again even though there was 13 volts on the jump pack. Then it stopped doing anything again. I grabbed the starter wires and and swapped them to power to motor in the starter and the engine started moving like the gear didn't go back in but it eventually went back. Today I'm trying to figure out the clicking and decided to finally hook up a fully charged battery from my 240. Now starter only clicks once, confirms starter is dead. And more evidence is that the power wire off the battery started getting hot, also the ground wire to the negative post was getting hot as well. I'm taking the starter in today and getting a new one. Even if the starter is good I want to try and remove the possibility as I have starting issues with my 240 and don't want another one.

I feel dumb now, I got a new starter, installed it and everything worked. Then it stopped working, I'm looking at the wiring harness and the only thing that can go wrong is the plug in between the relay and the starter plug. Sure enough, I jiggle the plug and it fires right up. And my "overheating" issue was just because I didn't have a radiator cap on and wasn't building pressure. I also found out how to turn my fans on by pressing the A/C button.
