I measure all of them. They are all on 1.65-1.68 mm. Except one.

If you are going through this effort, why not install upgraded clutches? They are around $200, as I recall.

Well that's what I would do if I will need to. But I started a crazy conversion and don't want to spend more than I should. First need to make this diff work then we can upgrade hopefully. By the way it's not hard at all to take this apart but we will see how it will be installing it and setting backlash.

Also what brand of dial indicator you guys used to check backlash?

My stock 4 bolt rear is .005 back lash. Got everything apart. Will use what I have to complete the swap. By the way used dial indicator from Harber Fright. It is what it is. All I need to make sure that back lash is the same with the new diff. If it's different than Huston we have a problem.

Well I installed the diff. Everything went smooth. But the only issue that I have is that the back lash is .006. I will try to use it the way it is.

By the way the torques spec for the bolts On ring gear are 65 ft lb. The torque spec on bearing caps are 43 ft lb. I added some red lock tight on all threads.

I feel like I am the only one who actually cares about this. I bet if I would to post something stupid I would get like 5 pages of posts telling me I am stupid.

Will report back when my brembo brake swap will be done and I actually use the diff.

You should be a okay with .006". I wouldn't worry about it. Nice to here when things go as planned with no hiccups.

I just came across this thread the other week and appreciate the updates. I just ordered the diff and cups a few days ago, it'll be some time before I have all the rest of the needed parts to install. Do you have any pictures of how used the diff looked when it was delivered?

If you taking about the condition then it was super clean. Came on the bag that had a box that has a bag where the diff was. The seller shipped it super fast.

No bearing caps with it? I've seen a new listing from Malaysia that apparently includes the caps too. The funny thing is both a Malaysia and Thailand seller use the same pictures. From what I can see on yours, I don't see any damage to the bearings at least. I'm looking forward to getting mine even though it'll still be a while before I install it.

Will 2g non LSD rear axles work either temporarily or permanently in a 2g LSD rear differential? I know they are different. Just wondering if they will work or if anyone has experience trying?

They also have a very similar user name. I suspect it is the same vendor or partners.

Mine arrived Wednesday with the cups too (even though the vendor name was slightly different,...). My bearings didn't come with the caps either. I gave it a quick cleaning and didn't notice anything unusual, the bearings look to have a good surface finish still. I ordered some axle boots off of ebay that didn't fit, so I've ordered another set. We should compile a list of all the parts / numbers for any parts people might want to replace. I'm also trying to figure out what the service height of the clutch packs should be as I'd like to try the stock setup first before maybe swapping to the weir kit.

I believe stock is 1.65mm. I was reading somewhere that their is 1.75mm available but I don't remember where. For the most part everyone is either keeping this information to them selfs or they don't care. I would think there would be more info available but I guess not. Even in the Evo community I could not find the spec. So if someone knows please post.

Just got my diff from the same vendor in Malaysia, they got it here in just three days! Crazy!

Now, I just have to figure out what to do with the axles. This is going on my Summit, so things are different...

I also have to figure out if I should update this diff. There is an upgraded diff side cover and different clutches.

Speaking of upgraded clutches, does Weir kit even work for us? They list it as EVO4-9 only!

I wonder if that is because some earlier EVOs (perhaps just the EVOI's) came with VC LSD?

Didn't you post that you're switching to 4 bolt hubs? If so, then I think standard 4bolt axle boots should work. The one set I ordered on ebay didn't have the triangulated shape though, so double check for the inboard side. I ordered 2 boots off of ebay and the seller shipped 1. It's Empi PN 86-2194-D. It fits the Evo3 cup, and measures just over 22mm on the small end. I'm probably going to take a while to do any installing.

Have you found spacer part numbers for the bearings? Are you replacing any seals at the same time? I'm planning on ordering the Frontline fab billet diff braces and also the cover. The rear end is one of the few things I've never worked on, so this is new to me. I just got a FSM delivered too as I realized the DSM CD FSM is missing sections.

It should work as the diff is the same up to evo 10 according to what I read.

I am installing RVR 5 wheel stud spindle, it still uses “2G style” outer axle arrangement. My plan is to check out if 2G axles fit, but I doubt I will be that lucky.

Weir is shut down for vacation, so I can’t confirm with them about clutches :(
First things first: sweet van!
By 2g style outer axel arrangement do you mean the 5 lug 4.5" hub or are you saying the spindles match or all of it or what?
RVR what now?
ROFLROFLROFLROFLROFL I'm jelous of 5WD too.

RVR spindles as in the knuckle? if so well they use a different setup to a 2G so that wont work, if you mean wheel bearing then it might, but I know the evo 4/5 maybe 6 wheel bearings DO work, i forget when they revised the design i think it might be the 6 they did the redesign on

so this is not for a 2G then? or have i just totally lost the plot LOL
