Is it just me or is this diff nearly impossible to find?I been looking daily for a rear and have only found 2. The one i installed in my talon and the one that was delivered today. Are they reAlly this rare?

4 bolt auto lsd dif isn't it? Yeah they are getting harder to find. I had a member accidentally sell me a auto xfer case a couple yrs ago, now I am glad that mistake happened. Do you need another dif?? I can keep a eye out.

Yes 4 bolt auto diff.Im always looking out for stuff. Short of buying an entire car i havent seen one for sale anywere.

Just put a 4bolt diff in a 3bolt auto rear if they are that rare. The evo 8/9 ring and pinion is the right ratio and should fit too.
Had no idea you could do that....I only come across 1 or two auto 3 bolts and only two j1h rear diffs in the past year.

All good options. :thumb:

Yes, along with the axle cups, which took a few days to find a pair. I haven't decided if I want to do the clutch pack upgrade or not. I'll probably wait to see how the bearings look and guess how much use it's had.

Following along. Very interesting.

I had a j1a diff in my auto galant gsx. Why is it so special?
You need to understand the history of the dsm. In the begining there was two. The manual and the auto. Everyone laughed at the auto. Guys would throw out the auto trannys and diffs like they were garbage. Then guys starting running serious ass times with auto. By the time it caught on it was too late. Finding auto stuff is becoming harder and harder to find esp the j1h 4 bolt diff

As i found out on this thread you can take a 3 bolt auto and use a manual 4 bolt to convert it over. Problem is id be concerned with shimming and setting the diff up correctly. God knows u can buy parts anymore. Thats why i chose to find a j1h

Swap the diff into the 3bolt case. Keep the gears with the case, then you don't have to f*** with pinion depth. Just shim the carrier/diff so that the backlash is the same as it was. Make sure you measure the backlash before you take anything apart.

I have a few other pro-tips on the subject, but on call engineering service ain't cheap LOL.
