Hi everyone,

I have just "woken" up my 2G Eclipse. It has been parked in the garage for a year. Today I've started the car, changed the alternator belt which was worn out and took the car to the service for MOT. I've noticed on the way while driving that the ABS light was on and would not turn off. Brakes seem hard when pressing, I think that indeed my ABS is not working. I also had a electrical issue last year which involved changing a few fuses. Also, my central locking doesn't seem to be working, so I think that the ABS and central locking might be related to the electrical issue. When I put the ignition on, it makes a rattle noise for a few seconds, could be the relay?
Was wondering what you guys think that I should start investigating and what could be the issue giving the circumstances. Thanks!

Is central parking the same as parking brake? If so, it has nothing to do with ABS system. I'd look at parking brake first, then your electrical issues, and finally pull the abs code. It shouldn't be blowing multiple fuses. You definitely have electrical issues if you are. Rodents often get into wiring especially if a car is parked for long period of time. They look for a warm place and chew up wiring.

Thanks for the reply.
ABS fuse looks good. I was referring to the central door locking system that doesn't seem to be working. Fuses look good, I have changed most of them since I had the issue. Not sure where the wiring for the ABS is to inspect. The MOT results are that my rear brakes are bad. Could this be related to be ABS issue as well?
What to look at for the parking brake? It seems to be working, it is locking the tires, although I have to pull the handle really high in order to feel some feedback and locking the tires.

Sorry for the confusion. I thought you were referring to parking brake when you said central locking. If fuses are ok, I'd pull the drivers door and inspect the switch. Make sure the connector to switch is secure on both sides, driver and passenger. You can also check for power to the switch. I had a brand new 95 that kept sounding the factory alarm from day 1. I forgot what the issue was but I think it had something to do with the door locks.

You can adjust the parking brake from the center console. There a 10mm nut and when you adjust that, it pulls the tension on the parking brake cables so you don't have to pull the lever as high.

As far as ABS goes, get the code pulled first. It could be a few things. Senor at each wheel, pump, wiring or computer so the only thing you'll be able to inspect visually are the wiring to the speed sensors on each wheel. The sensor are location on each knuckle closest to where the axle meets the knuckle.

Thanks for the reply.

Try and find out where the buzzing noise is coming from. Could be simple as heat shield or like you said relay or ISC on the throttle body. Think 2gs have parking brake shoes inside the rear rotor that you can adjust if I remember correctly.
