As some of you know I am building my car to get into Time attack style events, but am having a hard time finding the class breakdowns for SCCA for the solo type events... anyone have any input as to where I can find these? I have searched through their site but its terrible thanks.

by solo I mean road course, or hill climb events. I see they do the pdx, track trials etc... but where can I find the rules for the car that you are running such as engine mods allowed etc...

When I ran some autocross events years ago I was put into the highest class because of the manual boost controller alone. Needless to say I was not competitive. DSMs have a tough time with classing but some have done pretty well in the upper classes. I went and ran road course events after that and had a lot more fun than at the autocrosses, but autocross is great for learning to drive the car fast. I spent years running HPDE events with NASA.

yeah I am wondering if I should change to NASA, I know john runs NASA for all his time attack events..

A quick look at your DSM profile makes me think that your car is most likely in Street Modified class.

Been running SM at the autocross events, the only thing that technically knocks me out of that is my spoiler at the moment.. but planning on getting the V2 Kit in the immediate future. not sure if that will change things or not... What class would be after SM?

Without pulling out the rule book I think that would move you into XP.

FP is the next step up from SM, but you need to run 46mm restrictor within 4 inches of the turbo inlet. Otherwise XP.

Wings aren't legal in XP or FP. As it is mounted now, I don't think your wing is legal for Street Modified either (can't extend past the rear body).

The most difficult part is starting with a car that already has many modifications instead of building a car to meet a specific set of requirements. In this way, you can best spend money that will yield the Best result within your class. In my experience, it is always best to start with a stock, or near Stock car to see where you want to go with it. @Ludachris nailed it suggesting HPDE events. The events can be hosted by a variety of different groups, but the safety inspection is what all have in common. These are also non-timed events, so classing solely based on the modifications of the car do not always apply. HPDE events near me typically runs groups based on experience. The money to seat time ratio is fantastic compared to most other events. Novice groups also usually offer instructors to help you navigate the course. I would check out a few of these. If you enjoy them, perhaps look into something like time trials and/or hill climbs. Build your car to meet the class you want to participate in. This will much cheaper in the long run, not mention making you more competitive as well.

I am doing my first PDX which I immagine is like a HPDE event. I was just hoping to find a class that I currently would fit in and go from there to choose modifications to better the car in that class.. going back to a stock car and working up is not much of an option for me.. I do plan on bettering myself as a driver at a lot of track day events, but also hope to compete in timed events at some point

Once you go to a few events and talk to people you should learn a lot more about classing and how competitive you can be in those classes in your region. Just get out there and learn the car for the first year, then attempt to change your mod list to suit a class later.
