After years without a DSM, I'm back! And this time to try a auto yay!

How big a turbo will the automatic spool off the line? No nitrous. Higher stall converter ok. Would really like 500awhp, and will use e85 to make it.

Car alreasy has e3 16g, FP race turbo mani, gsc s1 cams, (plus jmf drag mani has been ordered). Will have all the fuel supporting mods aswell.

Basicly I want the biggest turbo that will build boost on the start line with no nitrous and make atleast 500awhp. More if I can go bigger. Don't care so much about around town driving, just want the car to launch hard and WOT hard.

How big a turbo can a DSM Automatic boost off the line?

depends on converter. scott was able to get his 63mm Borg Warner on without nitrous. 50shot makes it a lot faster and more consistent though.

500awhp goal, a fp 3071 or 76 would get the job done. Have you maxed out the 16g already?

Well... how bought Turbo AND Converter suggestions then LOL.

This will be my 4th dsm. I rocked a fp3065 back in the day which made over 500 on pump gas. my last one had a htz88 pushing nearly 80lb/min (never dyno'd it)

I'd like a turbo that'd do 500awhp without being maxed out (if it maxed around 600) that'd be ok). Was thinking FP Green would spool max out at 500. Was thinking FP Red might work good "if" it spooled on the line. I think FP Black maybe too much All the way around.

Truth is I just don't know what this auto car is gonna do and not as much info on it as I would like

35r and a converter. Likely a Precision #8 will be loose enough to get on and be a good match in power for 600hp.

Thx guys I appreciate the advice.

If money wasn't a issue I'd get a new twin scroll mani and turbo for it, but as the car already has a FP Cast Mani then I'm incline to keep it and try a mistu bolt-on Turbo for now. I ran a fp3065 in the past with over 500awhp on 93pump. I bet the FP Red would do 500 for sure on e85, just didn't know if I could get it to spool of the line.

I've been to the Precision sight before but find it difficult to navigate. Not seeing where i go to find what i need.

I ordered my PI converter through Jeff Bush.

That's a bad ass setup. What kind of RPMs were you seeing in between shifts?

I'm still very undecided about a turbo & converter combo. Planning to do the swap here in a month or two. Gonna be a stock motor street/strip car, 7000-7300rpm shifts. Has to be atleast 500awhp, and drivable on the streets for "fun" so no super loose stall, but main goal is performance so I can deal with Unfriendly-street issues. My biggest concern is I'll get one too tight, but if I go too loose the. It'll just blow on the street. I have no idea what to choose

If you are looking for a fun street setup, something similar to an old setup of mine you would probably love....2.4l long rod with stock restall and a 60mm holset. Was a beastly street setup. No nitrous needed and likely a low 10 based on logs and that was at 3500lbs.

I am current running a 70 trim with an IPT converter and I cant get it to go past 2800 rpms. I was told the only thing I could do is use a little bit of nitrous but I need the car to launch at around 4500 rpms. Anyone know how much I should spray to get to 4500 rpms?

Every car and owner is different. You could try a tickle with a 35shot. Mine will work with 35-50, but I use 100:D I let it spray out of the hole for a bit too. Also use it from a roll on the street for fun. Helps get the turbo going and flash the converter quicker.

A loose converter doesn't blow on the street. It flashes to the rpm range your car makes power almost instantly.
Converters are voodoo! The right combo is magical:)

Do you have the specs on your converter?

The shop I use for restalls welds in an anti balloon plate. Hiting stock type converters with nitrous can balloon them.

That being said a 2.3 with a restalled stock converter could get my fp red up to 4,000 rpms or higher in a couple seconds.

I don't have the specs on my converter but it is the only converter offered by IPT Performance Transmissions. What do you mean by 2.3?

For what you are describing I would get a 68HTA since you already have a FP manifold. I would send that drag manifold back and buy a evo III smim and have Curt Brown port it. I'm just going off Your comment of shifting below 7500 rpm for the smim. Your s1 cams are perfect for this combo and if you want a little more juice step up to a bep housing hx35 or hx40. With the 68 I would go with a #7 or #8 p.i. I don't know what your budget is though. Bradco came out with a new billet converter that has multiple options it's just a little north of 1K.

I run the HTA76 with a Sinister 8c2 converter, it's a great combo. I run kelford 264s with an evo 3 intake manifold and don't need nitrous to get up on the converter. It does take a little time to get up on the converter (~5 seconds) but once it catches, I am able to launch with 20+ psi at about 4.2k rpms. Car cut a 1.5 60ft with street tires! Big thing is to watch temp in the transmission since you will be on it for longer than normal.

Yep the longer it takes the more heat goes up fast. Have a good cooler :)

Yup I'm already gonna sell this jmf drag Mani. At 1st I was basing my build off my last car. 2.3l stroker with FP 88htz pushing 34psi. The drag Mani really woke up that setup. But the more time I spend with this Auto-car the more I realize it's a completely different animal.

For now I'm rocking the stock block, but by this winter I want this Auto Trans setup in a way that it's gonna be right for a future build. 500-600awhp is the plan on e85.

The BIGGEST thing holding the car back right now is this horribly tight converter. From a stop it power brakes at like 2100rpm. I can't get more than a few psi out of this evo3 16g! Its absolutely horrible! The car hauls ass othe than that! 30psi, holding 27-26psi out of a e3-16g on e85 tends to do that LOL.

I'm perfectly willing to spend $1000 on a converter to make this car launch. Reason why I went Auto this time is to build street/strip drag car with a wicked launch. I've put off the idea of upgrading turbo and such this winter, and decided to focus on the trans in a way that it'll compliment a 550-ish WHP setup in the future (built engine and all). I need this thing to launch more than anything else so trans is Priority #1

I appreciate the feedback guys! It's to the point where I figured I'd just call up sinister speed and just say "hey which converter should I get for 550whp with no-nitrous?" Then buy that one

The auto dsm is so different from the manual but I sure have been enjoying the heck out of it! So glad I went auto this time around!
