Because a boost leak ain't gonna mess with idle.... Maybe a vacuum leak which I know I didn't have. And Damn sure didn't expect it to be that big. Only issue I was having that made me know I had a boost leak was running a tad rich during wot. Didn't have idle problems till the past week or so and I'm sure that hole been there longer than that.

Lol right on. Anyway ordered new ic piping and gonna bend the bracket that caused the hole. Maybe it'll fox my idle issue that was a lot of air escaping
That's not how this works.
To knock a hole in there it had to have been rattling like hell. It also had to have sounded like shit and made zero boost. I genuinely question your ability to own a car if you fail to grasp the concept of how a mass air flow sensor works

May God have mercy on your cars soul

First off f*** you. I had a blown coupler that I thought was my boost leak I got a new one and figured it was fixed. Then when it was still idling funny I started tearing stuff apart and came across the hole in the pipe. I never claimed to.be the all knowing DSM God gtfoh with your bullshit

Lol

But good thing you found the issue out. Any further high idle/surge should result in a Boost leak test to eliminate possible leaks.

Lol. Keep your cool kiddo, you gotta expect some grief if the giant hole in a pipe under the hood didn't throw a red flag at you.

I'm a firm member of save the dsm society so my advice on this forum is always keep your car stock, it's much easier to work on and re sell later

Best of luck, keep posting and I promise I'll cut back on the asshole attitude, just slightly though

Oh I expect it from the dsm community LOL. I'm.never selling my car most the stuff done to it was already done when I bought it. And mostly eBay parts. Working on replacing all that with quality parts. Slowly but surely it'll get where I want it.

That's how we all got started. If you can thoroughly comprehend and perform a timing belt and tensioner set on a dohc 4g63 motor you will separate yourself from a car guy to a gear head. These motors are very precise, but have never been treated like they should be. You'll notice the active contributing members here have multiple cars that they save and sell to keep the community going.

The best purchase you can make is literally to buy a full set of factory service manuals for a 1995-1998 eagle talon on eBay. You can get all 3 manuals for $28 shipped and they are thick thick books. Pauleyman and maybe 2 or 3 other members help this site really stay alive, so even if you are going eBay mods just do your research and do it right. (The helms manual is pretty good too, my wife got it for $7 at half price books)

I'm sure you have seen the dsm face book pages out there, the community is really really, uhm, "uninformed" and it's a complete waste of my time to explain daily why an eBay 16g isn't the same as an evo 3 16g

I use my dsm as my daily driver go anywhere car. I focused on my car (my build) to fix every maintenance piece I could find on the car at 110k miles. I plan to hand the car down to my children eventually. I don't need it staining my driveway in the mean time LOL suprisingly the t25 kick in rush hour traffic is more fun than my camaro ss

Funny thing about building project cars. You build them right and they don't break, and guess what you're going to need another project car. Lol

Yeah man I got timing belt and tensioners changed just a couple months ago I ain't all that brave enough yet to mess with timing LOL I'm still learning and most of the things I have learned came from this site and I appreciate all input... Even sarcastic smart asses LOL jkjk I really do appreciate all the help though

Yeah 15 years ago I said the same thing and took it to a dsm, to a dsm only specialty shop.

You know what they did, they changed the timing belt only and not the balance shaft belt at 60k miles. At 90k miles the balance shaft belt snapped and got stuck in the timing belt while I was driving down the freeway. The engine turned itself off and wouldn't restart so I dropped it into third to try and restart the car from a roll at 60 and blew the end case off the transmission and destroyed the cylinder head. My 90k mile 1 owner car garage kept it's entire life now needed new everything under the hood. The shop screwed me to save 30 minutes by not changing the balance shaft belt and destroyed my car because they didn't care and knew I would come back to them for the rebuild (feed their own pockets, try to convince me to build a stroker, to say it's ok put the build on a credit card everyone does it)

It happens, every Wiseman on this site has been screwed by a shop or a dealer. Mechanics cut corners. You have to posess the special belt pulley tensioner tool to set proper timing, something 99.9% of shops won't do. I'd be off this site if I hadn't found another virgin car to save, I convinced myself I was the only one I could trust and i studied vfaq print outs for months. It's worth the work

I like doing everything I can myself and I have except for the timing. But he did show me my old belts and tensioners and what not and he came highly recommended. I would definitely take my car to him if it was anything I didn't feel I could handle. I don't have a lot of tools or money so the process is slow. But it does and has ran since I got it... Excluding the massive hole in my ic pipe haven't had too many issues I couldn't figure out myself in a couple hours. Since I was 12 I wanted a 97 spyder my mom bought one with insurance from my dad passing and I fell in love. This car is going nowhere LOL
