So you got your headlights cleaned and aimed properly but you still feel like its still not enough light output especially when driving down those mountain highways or roads at night and don't want to hit the local wildlife. you think upgrading the bulbs is the only way to get more light but don't want to deal with the bulbs shorter lifetime (150 hours for sylvannia ultra bulbs for high beams and 300 hours for the low beams and at 50 bucks a set) well I'm here to offer a solution! add another light! Disclaimer: before I jump into this write up I just want to say that LED bars are technically illegal for on road use and some states require a cover to be on them at all times while on the road, so be sure to read your local city codes for light bars. now for me I kind of live in a small country town in the desert so the cops don't really mind so much as long as you use the light as a high beam and turn it off when directly behind someone or when a car is coming the opposite direction. now to start with the write up first step is to get some tools!

Tools Needed:
A drill
2 bolts and nuts (stainless is preferred and you can even get security ones)
A drill bit
A basic socket kit with ratchet
Some tape
A hand saw

Now to figure out what light you want to use, not all lights are created equal! ebay is cheaper but wont last long without modifications, where as name brands cost more but generally last longer and some have a lifetime warranty. then you have to figure out the type, there is Flood, Spot, Diffuse and combo. floods are good for throwing light in a wide arc but don't shoot out as far as spots. Spots have the farthest down range throw but with a very small arc. Diffuse are a modified flood basically and throws light in a even wider arc. and Combos have a flood and spot on the same bar. Here is what I chose, Its a Black Oak 6" combo light bar with 5w OSRAMS, it has the highest impact and water resistant rating of all light bars and it has a lifetime warranty! and come with all the wiring so its a plug n play install! I got mine on sale for $120 bucks brand new from the website. they have sales on holidays and during the summer time. https://www.blackoakled.com/collect...le-row-led-light-bar-combination-beam-pattern

so now that we have the light now its time install it! first step is to remove the bumper and crash bar, before you do tho look in the front bumper opening and mark where the bumper covers on the crash bar so you know how much to remove, its not much but its just so the bumper clears the brackets

So now that the bumper and bar is off we can drill the holes for the light bar

Then mount the Led Bar

now time to run the wiring harness, underneath the fuse box on the driver side is a hole to come into the engine bay

I ran it up from there and along side the battery, the relay you can mount anywhere, its pretty small and then run the wires inside thru the firewall for the switch

Here is the switch, I just haven't figured out where to mount it yet

and now you are set to go! the installation is the same whether you have a 2ga or 2gb bumper not for the 420a motor I didn't have to splice or cut anything, the harness was the correct length but the 4g63 motor you will have to elongate some wires since the battery is on the passenger side. the light puts out a white 6000k light, that blue film is just a lense protector so make sure to remove it. as a side not this light does not interfere with the cooling at all, you can probably fit a 8 or 10 inch light there as well but I wouldn't go any bigger unless you want to LOL

Here are some pics of the light output

all in all I'm very pleased with the output of the light bar really makes those night drives pleasant as I can definatly see everything down road farther out, plus they are leds so they will last forever! I will be putting one on my tsi soon. I'm sure this would work great for those who autocross, maybe get a bigger bar but this little 6 inch one puts out a lot of light, 3000 lumens to be exact
