I am planning on replacing a cracked exhaust manifold, and figured I'd upgrade my turbo in the process.

EBay has "kits" which include manifolds and turbos for around 400 bucks.

I am wondering, in anyones experience, are there parts available that I should be considering that are either higher in quality or cheaper in price? If you have done this upgrade, whats the total cost end up being?

I prefer the quick spoolup of the small 16g over the evo. Put a stock 2g or evo manifold on and run the 14b. The 14b is a good little turbo. You could upgrade to something like a small evo or big 16g but as stated without supporting mods (don't forget fmic) you'll still be running stockish boost.
where does the 14b turbo come from? I had a eBay big 16g but it went out on me, now debating on waiting to save money to buy evo 16g or spend $100 now and get the 14b? Can anyone tell me if its better than a stock 2g turbo?

What mods do you already have done? If none, like your profile suggests, than just buy a 14b. You don't have the mods to support a small 16g, much less an E316G.

Get a 14b for now. Acquire the mods to support a 16g, then upgrade to a 16g. A 14b will indeed perform a bit better than a stock T25 performance wise.

Although the 14b is better than the 2g stock t25 if there's nothing wrong with it I wouldn't upgrade until you save up and get what you want. The 14b isn't a direct bolt on for a 2g. A Garrett t28 is the only bolt on upgrade (aside from specially modified turbos of course), and they're hard to come by. A used 16g of any variant can usually be found for $300-600 and may include the necessary j pipe and feed line. Also you'll need a bigger intercooler. You can probably still use the stock smic at first but you'll need a special adaptor pipe which isn't cheap, so you may as well get a fmic from the get go (however, supposedly using a fmic with a t25 can actually hinder performance). You can run stock boost levels without the supporting pump, injectors, means of tuning, etc and you'll be ok.

Now if you're just looking to upgrade the t25 one time with a 14b just get the adaptor pipe for the smic and be done with it. Although I've been in many dsms with a stock t25 I couldn't believe the difference when I briefly ran a rebuilt t25 before my small 16g. Didn't seem to bottom out as quickly and I was able to boost repeatedly with no lag.

So i have a pretty much stock GST. Besides a front mount and exhaust. The car has 189k on motor/ chassis. I have a big evo 16g turbo and 510cc injectors. Would you guys prefer just to keep the car stock until i can get a rebuild? And what ecu should i run/ A better front mount and or injectors?

@Garret , you need to be more clear, is the E16G on your car now w/ the 510cc's or are you asking if you should install them and what should you tune with? Also, what needs to be rebuilt. It might be best to start your own thread if you need help since this is off topic of the original thread, that way you can get the help you need without it getting muddled in this thread.
