I've been autocrossing on the same all season tires I drive on all the time. So I'm pretty excited to have these RE-71Rs to play on now.

Why not go to a 40 wall? Its still within specs of wheel rotation speeds, plus its a better stiffer tire with the smaller wall and will aid a bit more side loading/grip

I guess more so I just wanted tires that were exactly the same size as my daily tires. Good thought for the next set.

Hoping that the rest of the day is dry enough for some good times here at Shootout.

Also, really proud of my GSX for conquering the 900 mile drive from FL to Ohio. I got my fingers crossed that the way home will be just as smooth.

How long did it take you to get to ohio? And did you do the drive in 1 run or you stop over for a night?

It took 14 hours to drive here, we did it in one shot. I was real ready to be out of my car for the last hour.

Also I got third out of five in max effort DSM. With a 37.673 on the autocross course and a 12.273 in the 1/4. I'm really happy with my cars performance.

I had a lightening quick, super packed, shootout weekend that ended to soon. I was fighting a bad MAP sensor on Thursday and just changing fluids and getting the car ready to go. We didn't leave Jacksonville until just after midnight and then drove 14 hours straight to Summit Motorsports Park. We arrived early enough to be the 11th car in line and while waiting I pumped out the last of 93 in my tank from the drive, dumped in 10 gallons of e85, and put in fresh spark plugs.

Once we got into the track we set up the taj Mahal tent and unloaded everything out of the car. Then BBQ and beers.

Saturday morning kicked off with autocross and from my perspective it went smooth and was a fun course. I started pretty conservatively because the course was a bit wet and turned a 40 sec lap. I made small improvements every time ending in a 37.6 on my fifth run and a faster but not clean reckless sixth run.

Then it was on to drag racing. My first two runs were embarrassing and slow. I haven't run a 1/4 in almost 6 years and the cobwebs needed to be knocked off. Luckily I pulled it together for my last run and ran a 12.2 which I felt good about. My tune really acted weird with the elevation change I'm assuming and boost was 5 psi lower than I see in FL. So if I had taken more time to tune on site I'm confident I could have been in the 11s.

Then Saturday afternoon was spent watching qualifying round 2, more BBQ, and more drinks.

Due to work I had to leave at 10:00 on Sunday so I could make it back to FL around midnight and get some sleep before work today. The drive home and the drive there were pleasantly uneventful eclipse related. My GSX was a champion and put up with 900 miles of driving, 6 autocross runs, 3 drag passes, and 900 miles more driving.

I didn't take to close a look at his car but it was a 1G that he autocrosses a lot with a bastard 20g in it. He drove the hell out of it. Fastest time on that autocross was a 33.4 from a Focus RS so that 34.5 he turned in was a smoking time. And his car was super consistent in the 1/4 he just ran three high 11 second passes in a row with no problems at all.

Video's coming soon. Sleep and work took precedence over video editing.

This was my first time running the Potenza RE-71R tires and man did they really improve grip in the corners over my Hankook Ventus all seasons (duh). But an unintended side effect is it showed a suspension tuning opportunity. I'm going to need to figure out what I can do to keep that inside rear tire on the ground.

Many reasons as to why your wheel is off the ground but i woud first start with adjusting front rebound or perhaps consider upping spring rates, if its falling flat on its face in a corner then its possible the wrong shick setup/spring rate and now needs adjusting. Its also down to a transfer weight balance but thats not as easy to tell but it does seem a tad soft up front from the dive its taking when cornering

Thanks for the input. I have some older JIC FLT-A2 coil overs on the car. They are one way adjustable so I think my next step will be to play with the shocks available one way adjustment. Then look at running a higher spring rate in the front if that doesn't do it.

No problems, its pretty common for fwd and awd for the rears to lift, Rwd tents to lift the front!

it can also be where the rear ARB is too stiff for the setup aswel or too much preload on the droplinks, but thats more finer adjustments/tuning so consider these later but as we not got alot of choice we use what we can! So it lifting is not anything wrong but of course as your turning the weight is on the front doing its job anyway so take too much away and you loose front grip, but another angle is too much force applied up front and it could slip more and not using the best grip available! So its hard to specify but alter 1 thing first then go from there.

1 way adjustable shocks is just rebound (or it should be) and up this in the front can help but too much can cause the shocks to flatten out so it goes way beyond its ability and just sinks if that makes sense, i would certainly look into springs and adjust accordingly! Every change like your tires shows another weakness or item that is lacking, but dont forget this tip! Dont slow the fronts down to make the rear happy! Speed the rear up to keep up with the fronts! Otherwise your only going backwards and not progressing

So a crazy thing happened today, I bought a 2011 CTS-V Sedan. So after 12 years of loving and working on my GSX it is time for us to part ways. I'm about to make the for sale post. I'm pretty sad about it but I do love the extra space and awesomeness that comes with the V.

What! Thats sad news

Well, as of Jan 4th 2018. I no longer own this GSX. It has gone on to it's new home and happy owner. Lots of memories were made and I'm looking forward to modifying my CTS-V.

Last coupe pictures I took of the GSX and my V from delivering her. The GSX was a champ to the end and I got one last fun 200 mile cruise out of her to deliver to the buyer.

Good luck on the future to you and your V, thanks for being apart of the DSM group for such along time.
